After months of scanning CL multiple times a day, and coming up empty, I found a potential deal on Christmas eve morning. It was for a Simplex C43 made by Desmond Stephens.

That will be a great general purpose shop vise. Let the cleaning begin.

Does anyone have a Wilton C1 or C2, un-restored, complete, that they'd let go for a reasonable price to a fellow forum member??? I've wanted a Wilton for the longest time and I think its time to replace my 4" Columbian with a better quality vise. I wouldn't restore it and flip it, it'd be in the family for generations to come. I live outside of Philadelphia, PA.

Let me know what you guys have. Feel free to PM me pics/details.

Thanks in advance.

If you like vises and geared mechanical objects, you can check out this bad boy on eBay, item 391008650003. Of course, it's not cheap:

Alternatively, for the Reed collectors, here is a under-the-radar Reed sheet metal vise, eBay item 291287776321. The seller did not call out "Reed" anywhere in the title or description. Too rich for me, but if you are looking for that last vise type to round out the Reed collection....:

A similar model Reed Woodworker with 4-inch wide jaws was for sale locally for nearly a month at $75 w/bench. Though it was only 20 minutes away, I passed.

I will be really pissed if that one on fleabag gets 4 bills

I might pay $25 for it, if it still closes properly. It would be a good welding table vise.

One could build that for ~1/2 if not less. Post like that amaze me. They list a high price, but don't even bother with the dimensions of the table or vise for that matter.

It's at least a 6" vise, with a 2" thick steel welding table for $1950.

Question is, what's the table worth?

And for that matter, what's the vise?

I was going to post that link in the CL thread. I sent him a message asking if the price was correct or if it was supposed to be $195 but got no response.

Jake: pretty sure that is a Reed 108 that Jeremy posted here a few days ago. Wrenchguy noticed what looks like a huge braze on the dynamic jaw and i agree. $2000 for that is shooting for the moon.

I think i know your secret. :D

Qtr: if i were you and were within a short drive i'd ask to see the vise and table in person. not often you'll get to see a Reed 108 in person or be able to report back to us with more pictures welded or not.

I just got a response, texted him this time (emailed the first time).

It's a Reed 109! No wonder he is asking so much for the table and vise together.

He told me that he had two parties interested in the package and will not separate the vise from the table.

That's the one Reed I actually want. Regardless of the high price I'll rationalize it away due to that little chip in the jaw...

I was in Holly, MI today and I came across a couple vises. I figure I would share my finding with pics. I think these are york but I am not sure because there is no name brand in the casting. The 125 is missing the rotating base but it is in good condition. The Prentiss 55 it is nice also add a pic of the baby wilton I just got of ebay. That guys did a nice job and rebuilding the baby bullet.

Athol 613 1/2 X vise. Looks to be in very good shape. What do you guys think of a $100 price tag?

Robb: of course it's worth a Benjamin and maybe a bit more. when you have a few vises and ask a few members that have a few more i think the value is a bit different as you already know. that said i do like Athol and Starrett vises and they are some of the nicest vises made. that one looks to be in decent shape for a 70 year old one so your call.

Jake: how long are you going to keep this secret? are you enjoying it while it's sitting on your bench or any pictures to share? :dunno:

re: that Athol - I'm somewhere between Drive's comment and the others. Mostly it depends on if you "NEED" a vise (and how fast), or are just adding as Drives alluded to. Also WHERE you are factors in significantly.

And of course it is always fair game to make offers.

I only ask if a vise is worth it when the asking price is significantly off what I think it's worth, in case I may be mistaken. No I don't need it, just looked like maybe it could be nice addition, but the seller came down maybe he will go more, time will tell.

by the way welcome to the forum since it looks like you are a new member from my area.

It looks like someone tried to use the flat as an anvil and knocked out a hole in the casting.
