What's a good cheap drill press now? $150 or so?

I am thinking a 12-14" should be plenty...I do intend to make some adjustable bookcases with 12" stock. I'd like to sand the edges of some larger boards.

Sears has the 12-14" delta and craftsman around $200. I'd like a floor stander.

Anyone know of any deals? What would slightly more money buy?

Take a look at Craig's List. You may be able to find a good quality used machine for what a new Chinese one would cost.

I have a 12" Delta I bought 5-6 years ago for $100 at Lowe's. Only goes down to 500rpm though, bit too fast for metal, but it was a good price.

I picked up my brand new Shop Fox for less than $200 :pimpflash

Not a floor model, but it functions just like one.

3/4 hp, 5/8 chuck, total swing of 13", and 12 speeds down to 250rpm

I hung it on the wall using a shelf

+1

You'll get 5 times the machine used that you'll find new for that loot.

There were some on CL...most want too close to new and won't budge on price in my area. Someone had a DP350, but wouldn't send pics first.

Yeah, that's the thing. If you need it right now to finish a job, then you have to either borrow one or **** it up and buy one at an exorbitant price.

If you don't need it right away (as opposed to wanting it right away), then you should put the word out to your friends you are looking for one and keep an eye on Craig's List for the bargain that absolutely will come eventually.

I bought my 20 inch Powermatic 1200 floor model circa 1960 with powerfeed for just a little more than you stated on CL.

You just need to go and see them with the money in hand. There are people that just cant be bothered with looky loos and want you to come to look and deal.Thats why they dont post pic's.

Was a very good investment.

I picked up a 1960's Craftsman from a neighbor for $60.00 last year. I've also seen them occasionally at garage/estate sales. You might even luck out and find one at a pawn shop in your area.
Of course, when you don't need one they are falling from the sky!
Depends on how big a hurry you're in to get one.
