I think I have a problem (3/8 ratchet collection and workshop update)

Hello again, I wanted to show my 3/8's ratchets since I have quite a few and surprisingly I have some quality ones. I also have posted some bonus pictures of what I have done in my workshop since the last post which I showed my screwdriver collection and holders I made for them. I got a couple 1/4 ratchets floating around but nothing special just a hf composite and some generic one. I love me some 3/8 drive stuff, I also got a snap on sliding t handle breaker from the 30's which is really handy since it fit in my sk box with my sockets.

I have been eyeing up what I think is a "vintage" RP craftsman. Also I LOVE swivel heads, by far my go to ratchet.

Try loving ratchets and having 3 full shops you have to stock with tools... I prefer 1/4" ers though myself.

I keep quite a few on my service truck. E. G. 16 3/8" ratchets, 8 1/4" ratchets, 4 1/2" ratchets, 3 3/4" ratchets, and 2 1" ratchets.

And I have double that in the box in my shop. And I have nothing compared to some of the addicts around here.

I like the rotos but I prefer fixed head ones if unless I need to get in at weird angles.

I still remember a thread where people were talking about the best circular saw. One member made it loudly known that the Skil mag 77 was the best ever, and posted the picture of his new, never used one to prove it. He had owned it for years.

The holder is made of 2 2ft sections of 1/2in conduit. For the sides I drilled a inch deep into a couple 2x4 scraps then I used some scrap pine I pulled out from the top of my garage and screwed it onto the back. I used 8 screws, for for attaching the the back onto the sides and 4 to the wall.

Did someone mention my name? A few quick 'n dirty crappy cellphone pics of the 3/8" and 1/4" drawers:

3/8" Action to Mac

3/8" Master Mechanic to Wright

1/4" and some non-standard lengths

Didn't include pics of any of the standard 1/2" (5 more drawers) or the ones in the roll cab (@ 40 or so).

300 ratchets? I haven't been at 300 ratchets since like 2009 or so
Current list count across the three drive sizes is 575, with at least 15 or more soaking or needing lube and re-assembly before getting added to the list. That puts me just short of 600, covering around 120 different brands

And without getting too deep in the weeds, those are all USA sourced/stamped ratchets - no overseas or questionable pedigree ratchets need apply. They're also all individual/unique ratchets, not identical multiples of the same exact same brand/model/size/design. And the Big 4 truck brands only account for 7% of the total, with Snappy far ahead at a count of 18 (most picked up over the years as users).

Been saying for a few years now that someday I'm going to work up a post with some good pics and numbers, statistics, etc, but there are always too many ratchets to finish cleaning up first

And to the OP - relax, you don't have a problem, you're not even close to starting to have a problem. Once you have to take pics and make lists to remember what ratchets you have, then you're hitting "problem" territory. Until then continue buying ratchets at what rate and need you have - one can (almost) never have too many ratchets!

I have almost 250 3/8" ratchets, and you want me to narrow them down to my 3 favorite???

Well, maybe I can get down to my 3-ish most favored for use (over the past umpteen years), and the 3-ish most favored neatest-but-not-necessarily-used ones (in 3/8" drive only, don't wanna make it impossible by trying to cover the other drives...).

I'll have to get back later though, as a couple more crappy cellphone pics will be needed, since most of the involved ratchets aren't in the crappy cellphone drawer pics above - they're kept in the roll cab.

I will say for now though, that the brands involved are Craftsman, Snap-On, Herbrand, and possibly even a Bonney or Vlchek or another or two...
