Where did you buy your pallet racking??

Title pretty much says it all. I would like to buy some pallet racking, but I would hate to go to some warehouse supply place and pay a premium. Any ideas? I have checked govdeals and the other gov surplus sites with no luck. Thanks

I got mine from a Habitat for Humanity that was closing up . I actually did some trading for it without having to spend a penny.

I bought mine from my landlord who had it laying out in the field, covered in surface rust for $100. They pop up on CL all the time around here for roughly $75 per upright and $15 per shelf beam.

Used material handling company. I found some odd ball depth racking that worked for me fine. It was 42 inches deep (14 ft high) if I recall and used 36" boards to fit in the lips in the beams. They made me a decent price. I later bought some more from them, again odd ball, 26 inches deep, 12 ft high. Use it for storing cases of oil, my jackstands and some other stuff. Again it was odd for them so the price was decent.

I picked up heavy pallets at work that drums of oil came on, the boards on top were various width but about 5/8 thick. One shelf has a bunch of 5/4 deck board cutoffs on it.

Used pallet racking is only a good deal when it is like new! I had a lot of pallet racking that was in my building when I bought it. About half of the beams and several frames were bent just enough to make them nearly imposable to change.

I ended up buying new racking from a place in Kansas City, Payless material handling, for about what "good" used racking cost I bought new exactly what I wanted.

I have bought some from a business that closed down and sold it cheap, and some from a used material handling business.
Most larger cities have at least a couple of the materials handling places that deal in used stuff. The C/L searches for going out of business stuff takes longer.

I bought new stuff from Menards.
"Xtreme Garage" 30" x 96" Heavy-Duty Steel End Frame uprights and 8' beams. Price wise was cheaper than used. They have other small dimensioned components also.

I looked for racks also. Found some on CL then started to add it up and cost to get etc. I watched Menards and found 3 shelf unit 24 x 72 high by 77 wide at a net of $99 after rebate. Also bought same 4 shelf units at Sams for $139. Now Menards has them for $139. Nice to have all new and what you need. I found the 4 shelf was not needed as my floor is fine for what I store there. Not using the 4th shelf has allowed me to connect 2 units to make a 3rd.

Agreed on that. But my 8' tall pallet racking was only $25 and included 5 layers of shelves, so not a bad deal.

Bought mine at a place between philly and NYC that does nothing but pallate racks for big box stores and warehouses. They sell new and used, Told them what size I needed and how many shelves, and that I wanted used. Mine was 7' wide, 14' tall, 2.5' deep with 6 shelves. It cost around $200. I had plenty of plywood laying around for the shelf surfaces.

If you got a Menards in town they sell the components separately. They won't have anything 14 ft tall though.

Google "material handling dealers" in your area. Most folks who sell new racking repair and sell used rack as well. Typically, dealers who sell rack sell new shelving and cabinets also.

If you can't find some for a song on craigslist, I may know of a dealer near you. I work for a manufacturer who sells storage products (not pallet rack) via material handling dealers.

I was looking all over for 24" and could not find it used. So I ended up buying new from these guys. They had new 24" racks 10' and 12' in stock, exactly what I needed. They sell used rack as well but even they didn't have 24" available.

Uprights were ~ $79.00 for a 12' x 24". beams were about $28.00 for a 8 footer.

I see another thing in your picture that is a must have if you have pallet racking.
I bought a set of industrial stairs off C'list like yours. Great for accessing the high shelves or use for maintenance around the shop, like hanging shop lights.

Got mine for free. Local Best buy, where I worked, was getting all new pallet racking for the warehouse. Not needed but it is retail. So the managers bright idea was to pay for a dumpster and put it all in there. Then try to get scrap. Hehe. dumpster is fair game. They loaded, I unloaded and got it all.HE was ticked but oh well .WE warned him

Got my rack from PalletRackSystems.com (Houston). They had used racks out of an Academy (sporting goods store here in the South). It took me awhile to find what I wanted b/c I can ony go up 10' and I didn't want anything deeper than 24". They were quite clean since they were used inside. Not the super strong heavy duty industrial stuff, but more than what I need as a simple DIY'er.

Those are 6 ft and 10 ft warehouse steps. A lighter, flimbsier version of what you see nowdays in Lowes or Home Depot. I bought them scrap off my employer. I had them loaded and paid for before they realized they were supposed to destroy them (for liability reasons). That was about 20 years ago. I kept them stored for several years until I actually needed them.

I work for a material handling company and I would highly recommend you call one before buying used just to compare prices. We sell new obviously but we buy up all the used stuff we can to sell because people are always wanting to buy used pallet racking. I see people selling used stuff on CL all the time for nearly what new is. So, just putting it out there. Just because it is on CL doesn't mean it is a good deal. NEW Racking is surprisingly affordable in my opinion.

We almost always have weird sizes in the yard that most warehouses don't typically want but it would be totally fine for someone to use in a garage/shop.

After spending a few months looking on CL and going out and looking at used racks, I ended up just buying some from GlobalIndustrial.com. wew have one local, so didn't have to pay for shipping. Paid ~$300 For 2 uprights and 4 beams. A little higher than most, but I consider it well worth the price. And I will be able to replace a lot of my old 2'x3' shelving with just a few racks

I bought a bunch of them and turned some into a "loft" for ATV's snowblower, pressure washer, lawn mowers, bikes, etc. All accessible via drop-down ramp.

Some heights I've modified so that was simple to do. Next on my list is to construct portable bench on casters with pallet racking stuff.

Watch for stores that are closing or downsizing. Scored shelving when Toys R Us went down. They were scrapping them. Helped to know someone.

I've got the Menards stuff because I needed shallow depth (<24") racking. I also have about 60 linear feet of used 12' tall 36 and 42" depth commercial pallet rack.

The Menards stuff was almost twice the price per linear foot of shelving as the commercial racking. The commercial stuff was rated at 3000lbs distributed per shelf versus 1000lbs for the Menards stuff. I considered the Menards stuff very expensive for what it was. I would be hesitant to stand in the middle of a shelf of Menards racking as I'm not sure it could handle the weight concentration without buckling.
