saved this sears from the scrap pile. according to the certification tag, it is around a 1973 model. not sure the tank size? 220 volt 12 amp, so looks to be a true 2hp or so. 150 psi, which seems a bit excessive but factory. filled the tank from empty to cut off in under 4 min and seems like the refill cycle time was like 45secs. only thing wrong with it, the check valve was bad. happened to have an old one and rebuilt it, and it worked perfect. amazing how much better things were built back in the day, all metal fully adjustable pressure switch, and seems to be pretty heavy metal in the tank. so anybody know who made it? or any comments on it?

thanks Chris

That Sears unit was made by Campbell-Hausfeld, who also made the smaller Speedaire-branded units for Grainger (and probably for other brands as well).

What he said. If you look carefully on the tank you "should" be able to find a plate with the specs and info on it. If it is still there that is.

The tank label will not tell you who made the compressor - just who made the tank and when it was initially certified.

Yes, Campbell-Hausfeld has been around for a long time, since 1836 to be exact, and they entered the compressor business in 1940:

Campbell Hausfeld owns a company (something like Melton ?) in KY that makes their tanks. It looks like you have their typical 20 gallon tank. I have a similar CH compressor that I bought new in 1983, it still runs good but the tank just developed a pinhole leak. My only real complaint is that their intake is pretty loud with just a thin foam filter. It has been a good reliable machine and owes me nothing.
