I currently have one high lift door in a two car section of my garage and would like to make the other door high lift also to accommodate a second lift. As you can see from the attached pic, I can't fit two jackshaft openers side-by-side. What options do I have to get the most height possible? Thanks in advance!

any reason why the jackshaft operator cant be put on the inside of the jackshaft supports?Looks like the curvature of the 90 will give you enough room.
next option would be a chain and sprocket and mount it just below the other one.

I haven't installed my opener yet, but can't the spring rod go all the way through the opener?

If so, maybe you could get a long spring rod that spans the length of your garage, sharing a single one for your two openers, and run the thing through the single opener? Your two doors would then only operate together but the problem would be solved.

Are both doors really against their respective outside walls because the liftmaster can be installed on either side of the door. Another option is to mount the liftmaster with a 90 degree bracket so it is horizontal, the other door would need to have its tracks a little lower and you would then have two liftmaster horizontally one on top of the other, you would probably need about 8 to 10 inches between jackshafts.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. There is no room on the outside walls, so the openers have to be installed in the middle. I've searched the web and can't find any reference to a horizontal install, so I'm not sure if that will work.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to put the shaft and opener just below the existing opener and then kick the track out on 45 degree angle before levelling off at a similar height to the other door track?

Sorry to hear about your clearance issues but sadly thank you for putting me into following the same path. As I trying to figure out what's the best gap between the doors I should go. Garage be 23'8" wide with 9 foot wide doors.

You may be able to rig up something with the 480LM extension sprocket set and longer chain like this:

Well not exactly that, but something along those lines.

Ditch the cover and get a longer chain if needed.

Hey Zedder,

I have the same setup as you, but my 4 post lift and highlift conversion are on the opposite side. Like your garage, my doors are tight to the exterior walls. I'm planning to do another highlift and 4 post lift on the other side eventually.

You do have a few options...

You could side mount your existing garage door opener.

Or you can remove part of the drywall on the exterior wall and check to see if you have enough clearance to fit the jackshaft opener in the cavity.

Last option, is to mount the existing opener on the ceiling horizontal, front facing down. You'll need to build a mount to bring it down off the ceiling to fit the opener into the shaft. The highlift conversion on the other door would have to be about 1 foot lower than the current highlift for clearance for the new jackshaft opener. Which will be mounted about 1 foot lower than the current one. I hope this setup makes sense?

I hope so because that's how mine will have to go up this winter! I have a high lift commercial track that kicks back from the wall but have to lower the spring on the wall, due to a structural lip where the wall and ceiling meet.

Some custom bracketry and/or welding will be required.

I was at the local Menards over the holidays and checked out the small garage style doors they use for the shopping carts.
Three doors across with three shaft openers all at one end.
I could not get close enough to get any kind of PIC.
If someone could it would answer a lot of questions.

I guess you missed my post on the other thread?

I installed and shimmed the lift myself.
BTW, if you do go for the highlift conversion again, contact Maple Garage Door.com They do a great job and their price was the best I found!!
