I am looking at buying this astro pneumatic punch and chisel set off amazon. I have tried to get this set from princess auto but they sell out very quickly at the store near me. I will not be using these everyday maybe couple times a week. I am wondering if any members on here have purchased/used this set and mind telling me how they are. Thanks in advance:beer:

I purchased some craftsman ones recently made by western forge, they've been holding up pretty good so far and they were fairly inexpensive.

I agree good for the price but make sure you use the appropriate size punch for the hammer weight because if your using them hard they will bend.

I have a set, not bad for the money. Like all tools, when used appropriately they will last...... That being said I have bent one of mine but I knew it was likely when grabbing my biggest hammer
But simply worth the money in my opinion.

For what it's worth I've also seen one of the other guys at work bend his snappy punches too, now I don't know how much harder those really are but I believe the Sears no questions asked warranty also apply to their punches. I've beat on some of my larger ones pretty good with my snap on 32oz deadblow ball pein and they are holding up well.

I picked up that set from PA a while back, I grab them when I need one to abuse. For the price they are fine for occasional home use, they don't hold up to industrial/professional use very well. The chisels don't hold an edge as well as my proto/Mac/SO ones but they are serviceable. You get what you pay for, but at $2 each they perform well enough that I'll be grabbing another set next time they go on sale, to keep at home.

It's all how you treat your tools. At work (millwright) I've used the same set of crappy green punches from Harbor Freight for 3 years now, haven't had any problems. I use the 8" center punch daily, at least 40-spots a day, and have only sharpened it once.

They're cheap, so you don't worry. I've welded one of the smaller chisels and 1 of the flat faced punches into tool jigs. I'm not out any money, next time me and the girl go shopping in the states pick up another set for $12. Snap-on, Matco, Blue-point, whatever. You're paying for the same ****, but quadrupling the price. Then you have to wait on warranty (also if he has a replacement on the truck), you have to consider how much it cost you before you decide it can be sacrificial, you also have a lighter wallet.

I picked this set up for my home shop because one of our welder/fabricators has one, he's been using it for a year now and praises them. Hell, even comes with a handy wall-mounted vertical holder for the set.

i bought that same set from northern tool a few years back. it had no specific brand on it. i have a lot of good us made punches and chisels (enderes, baltimore, mayhew and countless other old brands) but i wanted a small set to keep in the box i roll around the shop so i picked them up. i have used them pretty regular and they have held up quite well. i have a local store that has the same one only branded k-tool. for a reasonable priced first set i give them a thumbs even.

don't tell anyone but they look a lot like the snap-on punches even though they are taiwan made.

I have this set, and it works great for what I need. Keep in mind, I work on my race truck every weekend and wrench for others in between - and if I had to buy them again, I would.

Use them for what they're intended, and you'll be fine.

I bought that astro set they are not terrible, not great either. I am sure I don't even know how to use them cause there is a lot of mention if you use them correctly in posts. But me its a formed piece of metal made to be struck with a hammer. Guess I dont get it. I just don't use them a whole lot because I have a snap on set too but they are rolled up waiting for the occasion. I just keep the astro ones floating around to quickly grab and bang on first.

I use them on gunsmithing pieces, but I would invest more in a set if you're planning on doing any serious hammer swinging.

Mayhew is also re-branded by Proto, Mac, and probably just about everyone else selling p&c's that are worth a damn.

I have the WF Craftsman sets. I like them, but they are softer than the Mayhew's and I've had to touch up my drift punch tips a few times. They also rust at about 1% humidity a week after being oiled. In a drawer full of black oxide tools, they will always rust first.

My next set will be Mayhew or Enderes. I also went the cheap chisel route once, and to be perfectly honest, they help up pretty well.

I'm only 16 so this set is perfect for me. I'm not spending a lot for something I don't use everyday.
