My brother picked this old set of boxes up today the lower looks like a old snap on and I'm not sure on the upper??
I fixed where someone modified the box to take a lock on the lid and inner lip and I sanded and sprayed one drawer so far!! He changed his mind on the drawer color, they will be orange and the outer part will be wrinkle black!!
More pics to come!!

That top box is really cool, Wrenchr. Having sanded and resprayed a few boxes like that, I say take your time, b/c it's going to take awhile to do all those drawers and the box itself. It will be real nice when you're finished!

Awesome find! I'm in the middle of a similar project. You may be able to update the look by using new handle hardware if you like. It sounds obvious, but I didn't realize the difference it made until I swapped in newer stainless bar pulls on some cabinets of I got. That is--if you are going for that sort of thing.

Oh, one of the metal cabinets I am working on tested positive for lead, so be careful!! I used a HF lead tester kit. Some juices I squeezed on it turned purple after a few minutes.

That is why I went with the krinkle finish for the outside!! I will have this knocked out on a few days!!

I love taking an old box and making it new. I am refinishing the two Lista modulars I bought off of craigslist. Some toad painted them black with a paint brush. I ordered new locks and locking hardware from lista and a few drawer pulls. Can't wait to get them done.

Your boxes ought to be real nice and retro looking..Keep the pics coming.

This will not look new but it will look far better that it was!! I had to take it to the car wash to blast out the grime!!

Both boxes look worthy of restoration. Wrinkle finish is a ***** to clean. May I suggest a hammered finish instead. Please post pics when you are done.

Eternal tattoos and a drew and mike sticker; you can tell you're in the metro detroit area. Nice score, looks like you got a project on your hands. Who's F-body in the background? 79 or 80?

That is my camaro and it is a 80, I need to be working on it instead of these tool boxes!!

This box looks like a vintage Mac box. I just finishing restoring a similar box and need to post some photos. Mine has the same drawer handles. It has a round Mac emblem that was riveted to the front cover. Have fun on the repaint. I put about 10 hours of labor into mine.

They look great!! Great old-time look. The upper looks like a 60's vintage Wards PowrKraft -- can't remember who they were sourced from though.

I've never used the wrinkle coat. Just finished a Craftsman 3 drawer top box with gloss black Krylon that came out nice. I'll try to post some pics tonite.

spray a fine mist coat over the slightly tacky undercoat with that wrinkle paint and it will wrinkle instantly. heat gun works good too.

Most of the top box is done with the exception of the side handles and the inside of a few drawers!! I'm happy with the outcome.

Well I used epoxy green primer on the bare metal and then red and then orange!! I tried to skip the red stage but the orange was way to dark!!

Wrenchr, box looks great, especially for rattle cans.

I do have to agree with Merk, using that Camaro as a parts shelf is not a good motivator. You may get so much piled on it you forget its there:bounce::bounce:

That looks great - and I like that color combo. Very cool! And its good to see these old boxes getting some TLC so they can be enjoyed for another 25+ years.

The Camaro is my next project, I will get it in primer and put it back together so I can cruise it a few times this summer!!
