So whats everybody's favorite sounding ratchet?

Thats probably a silly question LOL! But my personal favorite is my 1/4 matco 36 tooth. sounds very clicky yet smooth. I do love the sound of fine tooth's but they come second

SK 36 tooth round head ratchets, really crisp sounding. I have 2 sk 45170, I love the chrome on my second one, I also got my dads qc reject that is still great even though not passing qc, and a little baby 40970 1/4 that is absolutely microscopic, hell you could use it as a bit ratchet if you wanted to.

The old 20 tooth rats, with the cogs ringing like a blacksmith pounding steel on his anvil.

Went to go use mine and the ball was so depressed it wouldn't hold a socket on it. Good thing they are warrantied.

Sorry, to hear that, through work, I got about 100 of them, kept 24, none of mine had that or any other problem (so far). The first (2) I bought, wouldn't rotate (locked up), the replacements have been flawless.

Probably 60t 3/8" SK round head. It's surprisingly nice to use because of the engagement imo.

The classic Craftsman RHFT made by Moore Drop Forge. Actually, all the other brand flavors - NAPA, K-D, Easco, et.al. - sound just as sweet.

I have to ask a stupid question here. A lot of guys want their ratchets to be super quiet. Any reason why? I'm just a DIY guy but I like my ratchets to be a little on the loud side. Not dry of course, but also not super quiet.

A New Britain 60 tooth with Superlube.
A design still being made today... just not by New Britain.
But there are so many good ones.

Proto 5249 pear head. It was in the toolbox that my Dad gave me when I started driving. I still have the pear head and the old craftsman box.
I guess you never forget the feel of your 1 st ratchet.

It goes to show you; when you never have to service a ratchet, there is notime to count teeth.:pimpflash

I too, have had no opportunity to count mine personally. I remember the 3870 of my Dad being his go-to, along with a couple of 45170s. Everything else is not like baby Bear's porridge.

I still us the craftsman set my parents bought me when I was 17 in 1974! I have a couple other ratchets but that 3/8 is my favorite. The 1/4 is not so nice. I like to hear it click. Of course I will use air or electric if possible first.

Ha, fun thread. Here I thought I was the only person that wondered about this and that noticed how distinct some brands sound from others. :)

Vintage 24 tooth proto 1/2 inch...those clicks just sound strong!

Cornwell 30 tooth. A very quiet snick snick sound.

For me, a toss up between each of the above three, but the SK if I really had to pick one.
