I've been looking at these for a few days now. I am in contact with the seller and getting some more info. He says all the drawers slide very well. I am waiting to hear back with a makers name hopefully. Also waiting to hear if he is flexible in his price because for me this is to much. I am really into this old metal furniture and I will post pics of my treasures in a few days when I can sit down and do it all at once. Anyways, wondering what you folks think of these cabinets? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/for/4831818002.html.

Better not hesitate, I've never seen ones like the bottom cabinet and I'm sure someone will scoop them up at that price!

Holy **** Chuck, you did that!! :eyecrazy: sweet desk though!

Yeah, I bought it. I have wanted one of these for some time. Never seen one they aren't asking over 5K for. Theres one posted locally here in Mn for 7500. Been repainted too. This one is factory!

I am kinda a tight wad unless its something I really want for what I deem to be a price to good to pass up.

Pretty sure I will have this desk for the rest of my life.

Built most likely somewhere around the 1930's. The Ebay ad I found this picture in claims it was printed 1917!

I will post lots of pictures once I get it home. Its a 3 day road trip round trip. After I get back with it I will organize all of my pictures and post all of what I think is my cool stuff. I am kinda a desk junky in a way I guess.

I am super pumped about this!!

Picked this one up Friday afternoon locally and can not find manufacturer name anywhere.
I looked in, under, behind and under everything on the desk and the tag pictured is the only thing I found. That is a group of manufacturers. ???
Anyways the desk has some really neat lines to it and is completely painted steel. All trim pieces are steel as well.
If I cant sell it for a fair price I will end up keeping this one and strip the wood grain from it some year. I am not a huge fan of the wood grain paint pattern. I feel steel deserves to be shown!

Nonetheless, I thought you folks might like to see it and maybe one of you could give me some ideas on who made it. I can not find a picture of one similar on google.

I should add that this is most likely the heaviest metal desk I have encountered. It is a beast. Standard dimensions of 60''w 30''t and 34'' deep.

Thanks

So it's not a tanker desk, but I figured the people interested in this thread might like this. Picked it up today half craigslist for 40 bucks.
Would you call this a dentist cabinet? Not Exactly sure what it is but it's pretty cool. It has an outlet on one side and there was some sort of folding side tray attached to it.

Just scored this beauty! Will be going to pick up in a week.

I will post pictures of the rest of my collection but in my eyes this is the best.

Awesome...just awesome. I passed on one just like this...it is so similar that I would not be surprised to find that it was the same one. But the one I was looking at was 2300.00...and I watched that drop from 3500.00. And as has been stated, some of these that I have seen are listed for 5000.00. You got an insane deal on that even with the travel to get it. The reason that I passed on it is because it was not General Fireproofing. But if I had seen it at 850.00...I would have jumped all over it as well even though I would have to travel from California to get it. Congratulations! You gotta be stoked!

Thanks nine4, the thing is an absolute beast!! That cabinet Smedley scored is sweet, I was looking at that one to but didn't figure the guy would come down that far. He was asking 150 when I looked at it. I should have known to just throw an offer out there cause you never know if you don't ask.

Me, my girlfriend and a buddy of mine made the 17 hour drive to Buffalo New York yesterday. Went and saw Niagara Falls today as well as The Darwin Martin house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Also went and checked out the Buffalo city hall and went to the home Anchor Bar in Buffalo. Home of the Buffalo wing.

Back at the room now for the night and going to pick up the desk tomorrow on our way back home. Gonna be about an 1200 mile drive home. Was 1043 out here but gotta go straight south for a couple hours before we start heading west again. I will have my girlfriend take pictures tomorrow during the loading process.

This is my "Mini" Tanker that I just picked up on Craigslist. I really like the one pictured in the #9 post of this thread by Bull... (I believe that it's a GF Co too) but I have too much equipment in my garage and I don't have the room for a desk that size so this one suits me fine. My wife let me put it in the living area for now but I know that it's going to end up in the garage which is just fine. It's a General Fireproofing Co 1636F "Salesman's" desk. It has been sitting in a storage shed for years and it's in pretty nice shape after I cleaned it up. I still would like to refurbish it to its original condition. I don't know what year that it was manufactured but the previous owner said that she remembered it as a child and that it belonged to her father who was in the USAAC. I know some like the Art Deco roundness of some of the other manufacturers but the squareness of the GF Co desk is what drew my eye to the Craigslist's photo of this desk.Though it's small it still weighs about 100lbs. It's a tank... I'm sure it will be around in another 100 years. My father was in the USAF and I remember seeing this type of furniture in his office. It was the standards GOV issue and was still around early in my career when I first enlisted. Then it was replaced with all the cheap @55 stuff that always has to be replaced because it doesn't last.

$150? No way. Added some paint and its a good 20 footer at best.
Going to build something new for the top.

Nice thing about vintage industrial style is that nothing has to be perfect. Still need some poly for the top

Thanks to this thread, I'd been looking for one of these. A couple weeks ago, I saw this one on CL for $40. It's a heavy beast.

It's made by Invincible...a very fitting name. The lady said she couldn't find the key for it. When I was cleaning it out, I found it inside.

Mine is just like that but with drawers on both sides. Mine was made in 1956. You can still get the rubber bumpers and grommets that go in the drawer wells. I got mine for free when my son and I took a baseball road trip to St. Louis.
