I was at Princess Auto and noticed that the ubiquitous Fuller acetate handle screwdrivers that us Canadians know and love and grew up with (like the old Craftsman drivers for you guys in the States) are no longer made domestically. The handles don't say Canada anymore and the packages don't have the maple leaf COO on them. They even kinda look cheaper. Nut drivers too.

Good thing I have probably a couple dozen of those drivers but dammit that's a bummer. Anyway, PSA I guess.

Yeah, I get it now.. if I have to warranty one (they are lifetime) looks like it'll just go in the garbage instead. Or save the handle for a cool ratchet....

Time to support those currently manufacturing product in Canada by buying their current product.

You know, rather than buying defunct product that was last produced in the home county 10years ago like some people.

I better go to PA and see if they have any Canadian made ones left.

Well I buy a lot of Gray tools. Seems like that's the last Canadian tool manufacturer.

Glad I just picked some of those up a few weeks ago then. Got a few of the pros at some discount store on a whim and really liked the handles so I got the 7pc set from Amazon. Tough to find them here in the States so I was hoping to pick some more up on a trip to Canada one day. The Robertson ones are pretty stout. Here is a link the set on amazon if anyone is curious Fuller Tool 111-3000 7-Piece PRO 300 Screwdriver Boxed Set

Are Gray Tools sold in stores in Canada? Or they have to be ordered? Or they only sale to professionals like they do the truck brands here in the USA? I really want the Gray Tools 35038SH it is a beautiful set.

Yeah usually the bigger industrial supply places carry Gray stuff. But it's marketed poorly, usually just open stock. Their online store seems like it's improving though.

As an American, I had thought Fuller was Japan for a long time. I have some older Fuller screwdrivers and some wrenches, all pretty good. Also discovered Gray recently with some older wrenches and sockets. I'm impressed by Gray quite a bit. Very nice chrome. SK or Proto or Wright or Armstrong quality level? Where do I put Gray relative to the best out there? thx- Paul

When I was a boy in the 1960s, Fuller was ****. They distributed through Woolco. S-K wasn't that great back then, either. Gray was so-so.

Even SnapOn back then was really good but it wasn't even close to the SnapOn of today.

We're spoiled for tools, these days. Even some of the off-brand Taiwanese screwdrivers at K-mart have hardened tips.

In the 1980s, Mac wasn't as near in quality to SnapOn, either.

The tool industry has grown up. As far as I can tell, every brand in existence has had remarkable improvements.

i've had a set of the Fuller translucent yellow with red cap screwdrivers for as long as i can remember and with no coo marking, i just always assumed they were asian imports. i think i have a set of their metric combination wrenches around somewhere also that say taiwan or japan on them.
i dont remember actually ever using the wrenches, the screwdrivers were average, i dont know if i've ever used Fuller Canadian origin tools

New Gray hardline stuff is as nice as Snap On as far as I'm concerned. However, they are an industrial brand so I think they'd be more comparable to Proto, Armstrong, etc. They are about as nice as industrial tools can possibly get.

That is unfortunate about Fuller screwdrivers. Their product catalogue on the website still indicates Made in Canada but it is likely outdated literature.

Did Fuller make those screwdrivers themselves?

Looking through their website, pretty much every non-screwdriver item is just generic imported Asian tools. Some of the the things they're rebranding look decent, but some of it looks like total ****.

The Fuller drivers that are sold individually at Home Depot are still Canadian made I just picked up 2 square shank slot ones on Tuesday. Great screwdrivers for the price.

I think the screwdrivers are the ONLY thing Fuller makes (or made).

And yes, the rest of their stuff has been rubbish for at least a couple of decades. The Japanese-made stuff they offered back in the 1970s/80s was quality.

Yes, 2nd that. What I have Fuller is all Japan made. Have a crescent wrench, very nice and right there with my Proto crescent wrenches! And some screwdrivers, also very good for that era. - Paul

Got the Phillips that are missing from the amazon sets. And they look like the new ones no coo anywhere on them. But they were sent direct from the company so no packaging on them. They were free so I do appreciate it. thanks fuller! I did run by that discount store and grab the last couple old ones they had as well.
