Well almost a year after buying the vise from Jason aka "EOC_Jason" I was able to finish my Reed 4C restoration. So a big thanks to Jason for letting me snag the vise from him and another big thank you to KMSCOTT for the new jaws on the vise.

Here it is when Jason picked it up.

Here I am adding a pivot tongue on to the base so that I can move it around my shop. It has been a long time since I stick welded anything.... and it shows....

Here is a bracket for the wheels. The wheels are urethane with a load rating of 350lbs a piece.

And here it is finished still sitting on my little HF hydraulic cart... which by the way has been more handy than I could have imagined.

And here a few other vises I finally got around to finishing up... A Kurt 5" & 6" and a little Wilton that I got at an estate sale.

Duker: i remember the day maybe almost a year ago when JasonEOC posts the craigslist ad on this thread and asks us if he should go buy these 4C's that you and I now own. he still has 2 of them and a 3C and probably the other C series and i for one am very happy he bought them.

your welds look fine and i didn't get the stand like that so i'm obviously jealous. very nice restore and your Wilton C1 and Kurt DP/Mill vises are top notch too. thanks for posting because i could look at pictures of these big Reed vises all day like this one of the old factory that was posted someplace or here a while back.

Outlaw: a $300 Baby Bullet is still a lot cheaper than what i paid for my Reed 4C, but you are not helping **'s concerns.

Thanks, as for the weight I honestly don't know what the whole thing weighs...350-400lbs maybe... ? I really don't know....but it is solid.

So your the one who picked off the other vise from Jason. I too am happy that I was able to get one. It cleaned up well and while it does have a few battle scars it is in good shape. The last thing I need to do is get some stall mat at tractor supply to put on the bottom now that I don't have to slide it around on my floor anymore to move it.

BTW... I also love that pic of the vise display.!

Good day today. Delivered my Reed 206R I sold on Ebay and stumbled across these two. A Prentiss Bulldog with 6" jaws and a Reed 4.5" with pipe jaws. Paid $175 for both. Also picked up an old Milwaukee bench grinder and a really odd double headed adjustable wrench with a head on either end.

you sure are lucky finding vise's but your in the right neck of the woods for finding them it ain't very often you find a good ole vise around here and hardly ever two

I've seen worse. That should clean up nicely. Should be a nice 6" vice after a bit of time and effort. Put some more photo's of that up when you have chance, if you could? The 3* series is one of the rare Record styles I'm intrigued by. Keep hoping to get a hold of one of those one day, just due to their styling......

The 36 arrived today, whilst not as heavy as a 112 it is physically bigger.



The back of the slide has been battered with a hammer, not sure why as the slide doesn't look to have been siezed and there aren't any tight spots.



Also the mount plate for the quick release has been bent quite a bit during the abuse that broke the bolt or possibly just in the use since.



Despite having plenty of things I should be doing I couldn't resist a bit of a play.
I've removed the broken bolt and removed the mushrooming of the slide that was preventing the sliding jaw removal with a bit of hammering and a bit of filing.



I also straghtened out the QR mount plate but unfortunately this has caused a small crack so I'll have to braze that at some point, but for now it's still quite firmly attached.



Gave it a bit of a tickle with a wire brush and put it back together for now, haven't lubed it as I want to clean it properly but seems to work ok, jaws are a bit worn.

I have a 34 with a spare quick release mount plate if you want it. The vice is missing everything else quick release related and is pretty battered and I guess its probably the same part on both.

That would be very handy if it is the same size I'll have a measure up, I think I'll still have a go at welding or brazing this one up but it will be good to know there is a spare available if/when I mess this one up trying to repair it

I was surprised how much this would bend before it did crack, I'd almost finished straightening it ... as always it was the final tweak that did it.

The long side is 5" to the top of the rounded top, short side is 3 1/4" and the hole part is 3" wide.

Its been quiet. ..too quiet! Just got in from PA, spent 9 hours to get home on what should have been a 6 hour drive. Over the last two days i picked up the two vises i pictured in a previous post above. Today I got a 2002 vintage Wilton 1755 tradesman for $35. Needs jaws, pipe jaws and tlc. Pictures tomorrow.

Not a big one but it is a "vice". English made copy of a 1 3/4" Boley jewelers vise. It was black but is now gray even though you can't hardly see it in the picture. It will have to do for you vise picture addicts until something else comes along. The main nut is from my next project, American Scale 6" swivel jaw.

Fretters, Do you recognize the "P" logo or know what maker might have made them ?

I can see the fasteners on the jaws in the picture so they should be removable.

Here are better pics of the vises I bought the last few days: Prentiss 96, Prentiss #4, Columbian 204 1/2. Notice holes on the top, they're threaded. Maybe for copper covers? Wilton 1755. 2002 manufacture. Condition=crack ***** of vises.

I also saw, and passed, on a Wilton 3" Cadet (150) and a Wilton 4" bullet (250). Both in excellent condition and just needing paint but a little too rich for me.

I love the Prentiss #4 and the 96. I was thrilled to have been able to remove the swivel jaw from the #4 plus i have the original pin.

It looks just like the one on my Reed 2C, and it has the threaded collar.

Here's a little 1" hobby vise I just took out of the oven. I've never refinished a little one like this so I was happy to have it come my way. It's mounted to a hunk of birch with brass screws so the user can put it wherever he likes. It's in nice shape and I can see these being useful in the right hands. There are no manufacturer or COO markings on this one anywhere but it's definitely well made. That's a half dollar in the first photo for size reference.

Mtesh: i think that CW wanted to know if the 112 pound C2 was huge which i think it is, but yours almost looks small next to the C3. nice line up by the way with the C1, C2 & C3 on your bench.

CC: great vises, but we need more facts when you post those when you have time. did you restore them, what size because you don't have a $1 or a beer close by and is that the only 2 or do you have a few more. very nice.

The one on the left is a York 125, five inch that I bought as is its in excellent condition and I don't think I'll ever use it. On the left is a Reed 204 four inch that was pretty ruff. I striped it down to bare metal and repainted. I usually don't paint the slides but someone beat the hell out of this one, so I smoothed it with jb weld, sanded flat then painted it black. The handle was also bent so I straightened it in my press. and after a lot of work it looks pretty good.

Yes that is what the "R" stands or on the later vises example 206R will have the split collar. The flat nose spindle came out a little later, around mid 1940's I think.
