Not in... to...

Tore apart a bench today cleaning up stuff that's been sitting for a year. What a flipping mistake - I have plans for it, will end up a lot better, but right now that side of the shop is totaly trashed. Pix to follow... if I get over the embarassment!

Started running airlines and putting up two HF air hose reels so hopefully I can get paint on the 5600 Ford tractor pretty soon. The 1/2 push lock hose ends are a pain to get on the airlines. I've also been given the task of find the mouse that's moved into Linda's car before the sun sets. I sure hope these airlines go up faster than they are going now....

I changed oil in my truck, and added vent visors.
In an attempt to change my wife's fan belt, I broke her p/s pulley. Oops! There are several parts stores that have a new one in stock for $10-$16. I'll fix it tomorrow. You can't win 'em all.

You know that we now expect a report on the mouse hunt...

Note: If you release a copperhead in the car the mouse will be GONE!!!!

Removed all of the old dried out pin striping that came on the F150 I bought last month and then finished installing the backup lights I started last night. Going back out shortly to try to change out the fuel filter.

Spent the afternoon buying 10' lumber for my basement. I'm finally finishing up building my guest/workout room down there.

Anyway, I really need to buy a truck but my Honda minivan keeps on trucking along (just flipped 230K). Plus I'm allergic to car payments,

Added more features to my garage towel / Pig rack for various spools of string and rolls of electrical / PTFE tape..

Second picture shows the replacing of the shelving board on my garage Gorilla shelf, with 1/2" plywood scraps and topped with white coated Masonite wall board..

My son helped a buddy rub out the marks left by an encounter with traffic barrels at highway speed, and change his oil/filters..

Made me laugh.
I haven't had a car payment since 1970.

As far as what I did in the garage today, we built a big cross beam so we can move a couple of support poles. May take pics of the progress and post tomorrow.

Finished myself up a coat tree to take into work and keep in the cube. I needed something to hang up all the motorcycle gear on.

I finished running the air lines the HF air reels. I found out the reels, even thought they were the same part number, same box, were not the same. One has a 3/8 inlet the other has a 1/4 inch inlet. Naturally I found this out after driving 30 minutes to Lowes to get the fittings. I lucked up and my old instructor from PCC was at HF right up the road from Lowes and was coming back over here to get paid for working on the float switch at the shop septic tank system, he stopped by Lowes for me and got the fittings I needed and brought them to me.

I got the sheet metal straightened out on the 5600 Ford tractor. If I can get the PS pump rebuilt in the morning, then replace the bent tie rod end and the other one, it might get painted in the afternoon along with the front end loader for it.

I dropped the Hydraulic cylinders off last week to get rebuilt. One has a bend rod and I had to cut the cross pin out of another to get it out. I'm guessing they'll be about $400-$600 to get fixed at the most. I didn't have time to do it myself, so I farmed it out to Rob Hydraulics. They've done me right before. Free seals to fix a free jack, I figured I'd let them deal with it.

When I start spraying Monday, I plan to spray the #1005 4ft Pexto 16 ga. bender I bought and stripped down to mostly bare metal. It's going to be JD Green, the correct paint code is $189 p/gal, $69 sounded better to me for JD green.

I cleaned the mouse **** out of Linda's car and set a trap for that POS mouse. It just moved it there in the last few days. the POS chewed a hole in the back seat where she had it folded down to haul the dog crates.

I've been so busy the past week, I've not has time to post all the fun I've been having.

Hunting parts for the radiant heat, air stuff, hydraulic lines for the tractor and fittings and checking out a few "broke" generators for folks in the middle of all this, it's been a busy week. at 10 PM tonight, it'll make about a 14-16 hours day in the shop again.

I'm ready for a BIG drink, something to eat and a bed or at least a couch to die on tonight.

having the right tools make a world of difference

this weekend i took advantage of the warmer weather and moved everything over to the new HF 44" tool box. I put the top from my dad old tool chest ontop of the HF one - its too old school cool, and still offers a lot of use.

Almost finished wiring in my plasma cutter and Mig welder into the cart. Just need to pick up some clamps, and wire it up. The circled box is the junction box I'm using. There is a 15' cord coming out of it, so no more plugging and unplugging when swapping out machines. This also gives me an extra 6-50 plug to make an extension with. I did finish adding an air dryer and mounting the plasma cutters air pressure regulator.

Also had a chance to use my newly found Handi-Cut. Amazed how easy it cut through the 8-3 cord.

I started making my welding/fab table. I finished welding the top frame out of 3x3 square tube tonight. It's kind of hard to fabricate a table without the fabrication table so slab of granite is the flattest surface I could find lol.

That looks great. Nice work.

Excellent work !

Thanks guys. It was a relatively quick build. Most time consuming part was making the post. I didn't have any 3" thick pieces of walnut, so I had to glue 2 pieces of 1 3/4" pieces together, slice off a 1/16" layer from each face, and glue the layers to the sides next to it to hide the glue line.

Unlike the plastic cubicle coat hook that broke that this tree is replacing, the tree is extremely sturdy. I made sure to test it by hanging my 200lb self from 2 of the hooks and squirming around to see if anything broke. Double mortise & tenon joint from the post to the base, and the base is done with a very large half-lap joint, so neither will be breaking anytime soon.

I took the radiator and gas tank out of this 1912 Maxwell to fix leaks. I hated to take it apart but it was getting bad.

Almost 40 degrees today so I could work in the garage with the door open and heater off. Got the work bench cleaned up a bit and cleaned the rust off another trailer wheel so it's ready for paint.

This weekend I was reorganizing my garage toolbox, and needed an exra drawer so I decided to move the screwdrivers out.

I did a google search for screwdriver organization, and of course, up pops numerous threads on Garage Journal. Should've looked there first!

The suggestion I liked the best was from a GJ guy that used a 3 foot length of the perforated angle commonly used for suspending garage door openers, among other things.

I went to Home Depot to buy some and was pleasantly surprised to learn that the stuff is also available in larger dimension with double rows of holes along one side.

So, for $9 and some change I've got the perfect screwdrive rack.

The largest round holes are 3/8" diameter, so I opened them up to 1/2" with a uni-bit to accomodate some of my larger screw drivers.

P.S. No snarky comments about the wall clock. It was a gift.

Yesterday I cleaned and sorted lumber from the demolition then cleaned up, again. It's probably time to start a "build" thread so I'll work on that this week.

Yesterday it was nearly 50 degrees here in northern Utah, which is unheard of for the middle of January. I took the day off from working in the shop so I threw the battery in the Ultra and wife and I went for a ride, then came home and went for a walk.

I then decided to trim some branches off of the neighbor's tree that overhangs my yard and keeps hitting me in the head when mowing my lawn. Now I have a pile of tree branches that I need to take to the landfill because my scumbag, worthless neighbors won't.

Oh well, all in all it was a beautiful weekend and it was great to get outdoors and enjoy it.

Mike.
