I took out the cans and bottles. In my 5cent per bottle locality, I'm embarrassed to say I made enough to cover the forgotten items from my wife's earlier grocery trip. And still have "piggy food" leftover for the two year old.

But the garage is somewhat neater, and that's the goal right?

I'm having a few weeks tidying, sorting and getting some little projects out of the way before starting the next Land Rover project.

I work Saturdays, and have Monday off instead during the winter, so one of todays job was to strip down a little set of steel pigeon holes. I rescued these from a skip a few years ago, and they haven't got any better while in storage!

I'll probably have to re-make a few bits, but it's a dead simple design so those of you with plenty of patience and reasonable life expectancy might actually see me get round to finishing it.

That'll give me something to do in the blast cabinet for a few evenings..

So, NoVARider came by and we added the conspicuity tape to his Jesses, which are the same as mine. We also did his top case with SOLAS and reflective tape. Here are some photos:

We started with this:

And ended with this:

VERY conspicuous! Very bright, very noticeable. The reflection in the dark is amazing.

That said, for me, they are a bit over the top. I am redoing these in a different style. I'll post up when I get them laid out.

I'd almost consider getting an abrasive tumbler for a project like that. Put one section in the tumbler and let it go. Come back when it's finished and put another one it it.

Maybe make one out of a 5 gallon bucket, slow turning electric motor and some blast sand ? It'd look like a mini concrete mixer.

An abrasive tumbler would twist that sheet metal into a pretzel. Vibratory deburr machine ( looks like a wide and shallow washing tub with a cone in the middle ), with a medium sized medium would be better. Still need to be careful of any thin edges though.

It's amazing you got it apart at all!!

Just got in from continuing to try to get the garage cleaned up. We are going to be listing our house in a few weeks, so this ia both a clean up and a start at packing everything for a move. Tonight i worked my way to the back and then started putting everything back where it belongs, for the most part. Tomorrow i will try to continue progress and hopefully start boxing car and motorcycle parts.

I put the the Police Harley on the bike lift for the first time and I think that I found the oil leak. :)

Shot of the bike on the lift and drain plug just right of dead center of the picture.

Heres the drain plug after removal. The O-Ring was pretty much destroyed.

Cleaned the plugs up and put on new o-rings, hopefully this resolves the leak.

Last night I got one step closer to completing my new power drawbar for my mill. Hopefully tonight I can get an hour or two to finish it up so I can box up my old one and get is shipped off to the gentleman who is purchasing it.

I hope to be able to set up my chassis jig towards the end of the week and get a start on my new 8x10 utility trailer I have been collecting steel and parts for.

Mike.

It was a fabulous 60 DEGREES -- with 50% humidity -- yesterday!! I'm not sure if I just enjoyed the day more than actually got much done, but I blasted on a very pitted oil pan that's older than me and then moved on to some final trim work when I realized I'd not sealed up my high temp metal filler very well the last time I used it. It works a lot better when there's some moisture left in it LOL! I'll get back on the oil pan as soon as the order from Caswell arrives. In the meantime, I'll be working on buffing or coating the various pieces of another A Body Mopar front grille assembly ..... yesssss this is a "before" picture .....

I've sat here at the computer/phone in the shop and researched/called around about 6 hours on info and availability of Epoxy anchors. I'm taking the rest of the afternoon off and catch a horse and ride a while. There's always tonight when I can get some stuff done.

A bit of in and a bit of "in front of", fitted my new little toolbag and some led lights to my new bicycle and whipped a couple of wheels off the blazer to see if I needed to order some new pads with the service items but I don't thankfully. Also charged the damn battery again as it keeps going flat when its not used for a few days in this cold weather so yesterday ordered a new one, should be here tomorrow. This one got flattened a couple of times when the alternator died a couple of years ago and although it's only about four years old I think its goosed. It does get a lot of short runs in between sitting unused sometimes for a week or two as we try to use the wifes company car as much as possible, so it's hard on a battery and the cold weather has killed it.

Got a couple hours down in the workshop after work evening. A friend came over and helped me make a start on setting up my big old Colchester Mascot lathe, which I forgot to take any pics of, but before he arrived I built up a Britool flex-head ratchet. When I bought this a couple of months ago it had a special (12mm hex) head fitted, which I have now removed and replaced with a conventional 3/8" square drive from a NOS Facom J151.
The original 12mm hex:

I also put this little leaf spring spreading tool back together which I blasted and painted at the weekend:

Jason, you may have already checked, but another common source for a leak like that with the oil up near the top of the pan, is at the exhaust bracket mounted to the right side of the transmission. The two bolts that mount the bracket also help secure the trans door to the case. Sometimes the bracket does not have any weight bearing on it and the bolts will loosen and often leave. Trans fluid will leak down the pan and migrate to the left when the bike is on the sidestand.

There is a gasket there, but it requires pulling the whole gearset to replace, most of the time, cinching the bolts down cures it. Hope this helps.

Turned on the lights, threw in 5 bags of Roxul, looked at the thermometer hanging on the wall, turned off the lights, got back in my truck.

-17c. Last two walls are framed and ready to roll, but it's still too damned cold after a long day of work.

Worked on one of the airplanes, took off the prop and make two jet engines
and installed them. I'm all so reshaping the front end of it . Its not your regular
type of plane. I keep it on top of the shed.
BEFORE PICTURE

I'll post after picture when done with it.

I got my new 5 gal ultrasonic parts cleaner.

So I threw in some carbs and they turned out pretty good.

Now I'm looking around the shop to find all kinds of stuff to clean! :rocker:

Where did you get it from if I may ask and cost? I've thought about one but that's about it. Will it take the anodized coating off the carbs?

Yes, those ultrasonic cleaners are awesome aren't they. I help out my cousins at their small engine shop on occassion when they get backed up and they have one. I keep telling myself I am going to get one for my home shop but haven't yet. Emphasis on "yet".

Finally got one of the jammed suicide doors on my 02 cummins ram to open. Now to take the door panel off and figure out which way to start banging on the latches on the other side. May take right apart just to see what happens before hitting the auto wreckers.

I had the pleasure of getting to use my Secret Santa gift last evening for the first time while working on the front grille assembly for a Barracuda like mine (some of those involved in this great event might remember bluebolt sent me an antique Dake Model 001 arbor press).

047 - Copy.jpg

One of the retaining bolts on a filler piece had broken off close to the head and there wasn't much left to grab onto.

Sliding one of bluebolt's awesome jigs into the press, three rather gentle taps on the handle evenly pressed out the broken bolt and barely altered the surrounding aluminum at all! :D

049 - Copy.jpg

048 - Copy.jpg

A couple taps with the ball ping had it flattened back to where it needed to be.

050 - Copy.jpg

I can't thank him enough for the thoughtful -- and timely! -- gift. I suspect this thing will be just as handy reinstalling the new fasteners too.

All thirteen parts are now enjoying their base coat of Super Chrome to be followed today by Ultra Silver Texture, Clear Vision, and (if I get that far lol) Flatter Black on the accent stripe to complete their factory-style restoration. Always one of my bigger long-term projects (I only do trim resto on occasion because I love the rewarding work), I still need to get the grille surrounds on the buffer for a bit and then put it all back together, but I'm happy with how they're coming along so far. LOTS of dent and ding repair have gone into this stuff .....

Finally got around to adding a switch to the Dunlap DP. And getting to use the DP along with a recently acquired set of Petersen Dewitt Vise Grip clamps made the job much easier.

I bought it on Ebay for $325.

The next closest one of this size that I found was $380.

Not sure about the anodizing. It probably would depend on the solution you use.

Pulled the PS pump off the 5600 to see if I can get the PS oil to stay in the PS pump and not the crankcase. I got to try out the new Snap-On 3/8 drive air ratchet and new air reels.
