How would power steering fluid end up in the crankcase? :dunno:

The pump mounts to the front cover of the tractor. When the front pump seal gets hard and starts leaking, it pumps the oil into the crankcase. If you keep adding PS oil, it'll overfill the engine. If someone is not careful and they were to just keep adding PS fluid the engine will run away. If the oil level gets too high in a diesel, the pistons start hitting the oil and it gets past the rings unless you have it in gear and can either choke it off or cut the air off to it, it gets kinda messy. A farmer buddy north of me had this happen to him, it was over full and he went up an incline and the rear cylinders I guess when the oil got past the rings, it took off with him. I've seen diesel 6.2s and 6.5s and one Duramax leak fuel into the crankcase and do the same thing. The 6.2 and 6.5 was because of the front injection pump seal going out. The Duramax I think cracked a fuel line.

that sounds dangerous :eyecrazy: glad to hear you got it patched up

I'm still working on it.

I just woke up from my afternoon nap. I took a snooze while I let the parts soak in some Simple Green. Now I've got to cook supper for Linda and get to HF to buy a snap-ring plier set to get the seal out with before they close.

Technically, not in the garage ..and Mrs Outlander can never know I work on the dining room table when it is cold outside and she is not there.

Made a cable to be able to plug some electrical accessories in off of the 12v plug on my Outlander.

I got my new 5 gal ultrasonic parts cleaner.

So I threw in some carbs and they turned out pretty good.

Now I'm looking around the shop to find all kinds of stuff to clean! :rocker:

Keep us posted on how it holds up. I have been looking at the Kendall equivalent but their cost is more so I want to here about reliability after you put some time on it.

Rdrasher what kind of solution in use in yours?

4 gal of distilled water to 1 gal of simple green HD.

Unfortunately the simple green HD is tinted purple, so it makes it difficult to see how well it's cleaning in the tank.

I still need to explore different options as far as time, temp, solutions, etc. to see what works best.

Last night I boxed up my old power drawbar to be shipped off. A member contacted me about buying my original one after building my new one and I agreed to sell it. I will get it shipped off UPS today.

I then cleaned up my shop of the swarf on the floor from the last couple nights machining projects. I then set up my chassis jig so I can commence building my new 8x10 utility trailer. I know fabbing it on a chassis jig is a bit overkill but I really like the ability to clamp things down when welding to keep them true. In all honesty, in the time it took me to bolt my chassis jig together I could have had the main portion of the trailer cut and welded together.:dunno:

While waiting for the well guys with the boom truck...

Put up a hanger for my O/A hose... got it off the hose cart handles, which drove me nuts every time I used them.

Got another benchtop pretty much cleared. Strange to have that much working room...

Then the well guys came. Pulled the pump - there was about 2 feet of water in the bottom of the hole, the pump was darned near sitting on the well floor (Can you say not even close to code?).

Evidence tells me they dropped the well pump to where the water was... lotsa small sections on top. Of course... they had to have water to sell the property. and our realtor - was so interested in getting his cut of the sale he didn't mention we should get things like a well inspection, etc.

So... yeah. Today will not be a shop day - I have to go down and have a well drilling permit pulled, and plan on a couple dozen thousand in well driller fees. I am NOT amused. :-(

Bummer about the well. :(

I don't know what the regs are there, but I believe that would be a violation for your agent (realtor, broker???) if it were here.

Up here the agents carry Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance.

If there was no well inspection done, or there is one on file that is unfavorable (accurate) then your agent should have made you aware under the disclosure rules (at least here), if they didn't they should have to pay to fix it as finding that sort of thing is part of what they are supposed to do to earn their commission.

I don't know the process here as I haven't had a problem with anyone in real estate, hopefully it's not a lawsuit, but would be worth looking into for something that, as you said, will cost thousands of dollars to remedy.

I fired up the paint gun. I was going to paint the 5600 Tractor, but my tractor parts guy forgot to put the rebuild kit for the PS pump in with rest of my parts. I had to go get that today. Then I found out my paint guy forgot to put the Nason highfill primer in and activator in when I picked up the paint supplies. I decided I'd finish the pump later tonight after supper and get the tractor ready to spray in the morning. I sprayed the Pexto 1005 brake today to try out the paint gun. JD Green, it was a $100 cheaper than the correct paint code. If I ever get around to it, I'll repaint the black background on the brass plate.

Mike.

You have a link to this? Would like to follow how you do this, especially since your using square tubing instead of angle iron.

I emptied the end bay of all the cardboard boxes that had built up from christmas and two kids birthdays and took them to the recycling centre. I then washed the wifes car and blew the worst of the mud off my blazer so i don't get covered in **** when I service it next week. Also blew the worst of the winter slime off the C10.

I swapped out the buggered instrument cluster from my E36 320i Touring for one nabbed on eBay for £30 delivered. Works a treat!

Also put some pipe lagging around the trolley-jack handles to protect car bodywork.

New battery in the Dunlop clock.

Fitted OSB to one pair of carriage doors.

Today was all garden tractor. I'm gonna get this JD running yet, hopefully. Parts to verify operation are coming in, gonna be just at $125 to prove it runs and moves. Then the fun begins. If the transmission is out, going to have to make a serious decision whether to continue or start piecing it out.

Amidst a bunch of other stuff this week, I almost finished up all the coating on the stainless (to replicate the factory look) on an A Body Mopar grille I've been working on. With 9 out of 13 pieces finished in four colors and ready for the final cure, I just ran outta steam, got frustrated and had to call it a night ... before I decided to practice my javelin throw and fling one of them across the shop. The closer this multi-color stuff gets to being finished, the more tedious it gets and it just wasn't my night. But tomorrow's a new day. :D

Did some PM and R&R on my semi auto wire strippers.. Second picture, there is a pin that goes between the gray/handle and the black/linkage that was loose in the hole. Disassembled, center punched the pin, reinstalled..

Lending tools to buddies always makes me take pause and insure the condition of tools I've used / abused are OK for them..

Finished up a few ATV jobs:

- installed the 12 volt adapter I made last week and wired in the connector for the heated shield

- replaced a broken exhaust heat shield. Broke my last Dremel cut off wheel in the process but I was far enough through I was able to finish. Need to remember yo get more!

- changed the ignition switch. Still need to go to the dealer to get a second key programmed. I ended up going to the used snowmobile/ATV parts place and got the switch and key for half price.

- bought a Battery Tender Plus with the gift card Outlander Jr. gave me for Christmas. Hoping to make the battery live a bit longer before changing it
