Regulated 5V DC Power Adapter needed

I have a Mitutoya DRO for BP MIll.

It needs a POWER ADAPTER. INPUT 120 VAC 50/60 Hz OUT 5VDC +/-.1v 0.5A
I have a cable that'll plug into the DRO %v input.

I'd like to come up with one the cheap if I can. I'm open to ideas other than going back to the manufacturer and buying one as I don't know if the rest of the DRO works yet.

An old computer power supply has 5V. USB is also 5V. There are lots of options for that low amp draw.

I just read the reveiws for that one, I'll steer clear of it. I'm thinking If RadioShack has the +5V FIXED-VOLTAGE REGULATOR 7805 , if I use the Input as (+) and the common as (-) on the regulator, then use the Common for the (-) on the output for the (+) I'd get a regulated 5V output using the 6.5V output power supply I have.

As mentioned: Use a USB Power adapter. Cheap everywhere and yes it's regulated.

That style regulator requires a higher input voltage to maintain regulation. Typically at least 7.5 volts.

I would go with a quality USB supply, I think it'll be the closest to the +/- .1v you're gking to find in a common supply. Using a whole switch mode supply for 5v/.5a sounds rediculous.

My guess though is its really not all that sensitive, and you could use any 5v wall wart

TY, I just spoke with my computer Geek nephew, he think he has one I can have. I'll get it around 4-5PM today when I go over for the pig pickin' at his step dads house. Free is good. If it powers up I'll sort out the rest of the wiring...

I just got back home from the pig pickin'...I now have a 120V/5V power supply. I knew you guys would come up with a cheap way to get around having to go out and buy a $55+shipping power supply. It'll be a little later before I can get it wired, I gota take a nap now....

I found out a lot of cell phone chargers are "unregulated", if they have a transformer, most times they are not regulated. It looks like maybe all USB chargers are regulated. I'll find out later tonight, if I break it out and it stays at 5V connected or not, it's regulated.

I just cut the USB cable apart and checked the voltage output from the 120v/5V USB power supply, 4.97VDC. I'm going to try working on the plug and such to wire it to the DRO panel now.

I'm glad I didn't buy a power supply now. It powered up but the display doesn't work. I'll do some more checking and see what i can figure out.

....... all cell phone chargers now a days are switch mode power supplies, (switch mode power supplies by nature are regulated supposedly by the way it's circuit works), not transformer base linear regulated power supplies. even if they are transformer base they are regulated in order not damage the batteries. Even the ones you find from China.... haven't been that way since the late 90s s.. as far as shying away from the truth and interpret this as some one stating the truth as some one trying to starting a fight with you .... well., I think you are just a little too defensive...
