I happened into Hobby Lobby tonight (looking for Charcoal Gray spray paint) and happened upon a sale of reproduction garage related art. Picked up 3x. All are half off until 1/31 including some Busted Knuckle stuff.. I didn't see anyone posting this subject ... I'm sorry if I missed it / this is redundant..

That's funny I was just in hobby lobby as well today looking for some specialty paint brushes and got that same STP sign and some old oil cans that hang on the wall. They have some really cool stuff for the garage and shop walls. Oh yeah, and it's on sale HALF Price this week.

Hobby Lobby has a huge selection of sign related items fir garages. Most of there items can also be found on eBay at high prices that are crazy compared to buying at the store. I think people buy at half price sales which is often and relist on ebay with stupid high prices. If they are not on sale you can always pull up a 40 percent off on your phone from there website.

I have quite a few signs from there and I've never paid full price. Either wait til it is on sale or get the 40% off coupon like Silverplate said.

I saw these before Christmas thought they looked good/price was right but...I'm moving so trying to limit myself to incidentals. Don't pick up the lighted sign though it's way too expensive.

The one here in Des Moines had metal signs that were reproductions of old 'CARtoons' magazine covers. I snagged those!

I saw a bunch of those hobby lobby repros sell at a farm auction at prices you would expect original, porcelain signs to go for. The poor buyers were probably shellshocked once they saw the HL pricetags on the backside!

I know the feeling.. These are indeed reproductions, almost all made in China.. I found some made in US stuff mixed in. The GM items were branded / authorized.

The prices are not bad if you can overlook the fact they are reproductions and made in China..

I don't have much usable wall space for art and signs. I wish I did. Anything I do have on the walls or hanging up came from a race I was at or competed in. That stuff has a little more sentimental value to me than a mass produced "retro" sign. Some of them are cool, though.

I am going to be hanging several of these signs on the outside of my shop this spring. The front of the shop is generally shaded and I'll clear coat them to help resist weathering. Anyone have any idea what kind of lifespan I can expect?

Heading there after work for the STP sign! Thanks. And maybe a few other items.....

ScottsGT.. good deal..post what you get..

LS6 Tommy.. I'm in the same boat.. I want more (and I'm sure I'll acquire) original ones.. In the mean time I've got to do some signage Tetris...

Tim the Toom Man.. I've not had any previously, other than an old Oliver sign I purchased maybe 20 years ago and its been inside the garage outside of the elements.. and is still in great shape.. so Clear Coating them sounds sensible and probably OK. They are made with some built in / simulated patina anyway.. the Hippy sign for example has had acid rubbed on the edges to promote corrosion....

Good hunting all..

Cool find! I haven't been to the store yet to see what they have in stock, but just did a little searching on the website and they've got quite a few cool signs @ 50% off. I might run to the closest store tonight and see what they stock.

Way to make me spend money!

They have some cool stuff including repo oil cans, drawer pulls, switch plates, etc. I have a sign that reads Caution - flying Tools in this area. My wife thinks that's pretty funny. I like the old school automotive stuff for my garage walls, although I do have some national park stuff and I just put up a sign that came with my 50th Anniversary Ruger 10/22.

My wall didn't care where they were made...On the other hand bolts and nuts I'm working on does care where the wrench was made

Here's a couple of the small magnets I've bought from the " Hobs Lobs " that's what the family calls the store?

I also have several larger type signs from there also. I like stuff like this!

Hey Dennis - thanks for the heads up! I've wanted some of these types of signs for my garage but the repos are not cheap and the originals are crazy, out of my budget prices. Just ran over there and grabbed a few. It was a diificult exercise in restraint! I picked some out, layed them against the wall, add up the prices, took some out and added others, refigure the cost then start over again. Ended up with the 4 below for about $50. Can't beat that!

Thanks again. I decided against making the 40 minute drive to the store and just ordered them online last night. I didn't want to be disappointed with the in store selection, and shipping was only $14 for 11 signs.

Very nice.. We'll want to see picts of what you purchased when you get them. The selection at the store on the South Side of Indy was a bit picked over..

I lost 40 years worth of collectible signs in a garage fire almost 2 years ago. Don't think I have another forty to buy more. Long story short Hobby Lobby is easing the pain.

Desperate Enterprises sells tin signs and you can get quantity discounts. The price depends on how many signs you buy. A couple of us at work got together and bought about 25 signs between us. Cost was about 6$ each, shipped. That was a couple of years ago but the still have the same pricing model.

They also have light switch plates, thermometers, etc.

I may have went today and dropped 200 dollars but the 50% off saved me from spending 400. We move into our new house April 27th and we have a 24x20ish two car that I need to make right ( floor and wall paint ) can't wait to move in and get it right. Now it will be even better with all the signs I got today!

So THANKS for the heads up!

While she shopped for something I was killing time in the sign/auto area at HL about a week ago. I saw some drawer pulls that resembled outside car door handles from the '60's. Would look great in a garage on cabinets and drawers. Dave R.

GMC -yes a shell casing I got In the late 1960s. Not sure of its age. I just steel wooled the rust off it, and sprayed with clear coat auto paint.

I have a similar "Slow Children" sign. I kinda wanted to put it in my classroom when I was a Special Ed. teacher but I thought my boss might frown upon it... :dunno:

Lol. Love that sign too! I could see how the boss might not care for it in your line of work. I acquired mine in my youthful partying days. My room mates and I gave a new definition to the meaning of that sign:beer:
