I am building myself a new workbench (actually my first workbench since I just moved out of parents house not too long ago). I picked up a vise from craigslist yesterday. I think I got a pretty good deal on the red Wilton you see sitting beside it for $70, but I really think I did good grabbing this Starret for $65. Anyways, everything looks good on it, except the 1 replaceable jaw is cracked. The casting on the side says 324 1/2. I can't seem to find too much on this model. Does anyone know if certain jaws fit this exact model? I'm contemplating cleaning this up for the new bench, or maybe just leaving it as-is.

Let me known what you guys think,
Thanks

AJ: i'm guessing you are talking about a missing pipe jaw on your Starrett vise? not sure you can buy one any longer, but I've seen several of the members make some for their vises. post up a few more pictures of the Starrett showing the missing or broken jaw.

BTW the Starrett vise is a keeper and will last another 100 years if you don't use it like an anvil or a press.

The pipe jaws are perfect, it's one of the actual main jaws. One looks like it's brass, and the other is cracked right down the middle. Wasn't too sure about replacing that piece.

AJ: can you take a few more pictures of your jaws from both sides and with them open so I (we) can see what you are concerned about? from my seat those jaws look good in the pictures you posted. there are a few members that could make you some jaws if you can't find some to buy if you need them and can't make some yourself. good to know your pipe jaws are all there because that is a nice multy purpose vise.

Here are the jaws. Still fine to use, but you can see how the one closest to the handle is cracked. Just seeing what my options are if I want to replace them

Perhaps someone with the same vise can chime in, but it looks like someone modified those jaws adding the vertical vee, which led to the crack. I be tempted to use it as is, don't really see how that crack would affect the use.
