A big hello from the North side of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

My wife and I recently purchased our first true family home about 9 months after welcoming our beautiful son into our family, it didn't take us long to realise that the small two bed, one bath with single carport home we owned at the time would not be suitable for a growing family so we cleaned up the 100 year old wood panel 'Queenslander', sold it and moved somewhat North purchasing a brick 5 bed 2 bath with 2 car garage.

I began to get tired of the garage not having a suitable bench or work area so I took the opportunity to personalise it and make it my own while also sorting out all of the random junk that had been accumulating since moving.

After cleaning out and rearranging the contents of the garage I put up a 1200mm (4 foot) wide cabinet with internal peg board.

After stalking many threads on here i drew up in CAD the base model for my bench taking a great deal of information and inspiration from the wealth of knowledge on here, looking back i think should thank allinon72 as I feel my design took a great deal from their design.

I took the easy route with the cabinet doors making a simple 4 part frame with ply backing tacked on

As I want to finish my bench to a somewhat tidy level, I have begun to affix 3mm (1/8") MDF to the face, the sides will receive the same treatment prior to filling, priming and paint.

Very much looking forward to completing this project while learning from this forum along the way. The bench once completed will be placed under the wall mounted cabinet, topped by a 3/4" pine panel not yet shown in photos.

I think that bench is going to look great. I wish had taken an eye to making my garage look nice from the start. It would have made it a whole lot simpler in the long run.

Welcome!! You have a beautiful home and a great garage. I am sure you will enjoy having the garage just to your specifications. Real nice work on your new bench and the red cabinet looks good!

Thanks for all the compliments, it makes all of the work i have completed seem all the more worthwhile.

Have put a little more time into it during the week, currently sits as shown below, this weekend i will be running a coat of sealant/primer over the entire base then filling all open joints and blemishes with filler ready for paint.

****** North siders, always causing trouble and blaming us other guys on the other side of the river:lol::lol:. Welcome mate, look forward to more posts and updates and would love to see some pics of the old Queenslander. The timber bench/cupboard is looking great. Lee

Yeah not far at all minimowog, I actually work in Strathpine. I am very hopefully it will turn into a very useful space, it needs too until I can afford a shed. [emoji3]

Thanks for the welcome HGFS, 5km is super close to me. I had no idea there were so many local guys on here.

Haha 80WTI_55_CHEV it can be like that, I have lived on both sides of the river. Our Queenslander was in Coopers Plains but I work for Moreton Bay Council so my family kindly moved North. Will dig up some pics from our first home. It seems from your profile pic that you have the exact model of car my wife and I want to save for in the future, absolutely love the colour of yours.

... And some that used to be local.

Welcome to the forum. I lived in Brendale (close enough to Wantima Country Club to get golf balls in the yard) for 25 years. Sold my house there in 2008 when I moved to Canada.
