Hello all,
I think I've lurked here enough. I bought my house a few years ago and have not put any thought into the garage. That's going to change this year since I'm done with finishing the basement.

Specs:

• 21'w X 24'd X 11't
• Center Drain
• Hot and Cold Frost proof water connections
• 18' x 7' Steel insulated garage door
• Two 4' x 4' overhead storage racks
• Four three bulb T5 lights

Future:

• Gray paint on the walls with accent stripe
• Custom work bench and storage in front left corner
• Add bench grinder
• Add Vise
• Paint the stem wall black
• Paint entry doors and stairs gray
• Rebuild the stairs to have only access on one side, making room for custom bench.
• something for outdoor tool storage
• Quieter garage door opener
• Bicycle Storage Pulley System
• Wall wheel storage
• Upgrade electrical to 20 amp
• I'd love to remove the popcorn ceiling
• Repair attic stairs
• Far Far future ProCom 75,000 BTU NG Heater GHBVN80 or similar
• Far Far Far future is Free Flow Race Deck flooring. I just can't afford it yet.

At this point I"m going to start with painting, the custom bench, and better bike storage for all our bikes.

First question, what do you suggest for the paint type on the walls? Semi gloss, satin? What are you guys using?

Greetings and welcome! Nice place indeed. Very neat and organized. As to paint on walls I would recommend semi gloss. This cleans easier than flat. On the ceiling I would do mine in semi gloss as well. For trim, I would be tempted to go with a gloss depending on what type trim and what it will be, wood, metal, or stripes. You have a great garage already and it is looking nice. Good lighting as well. Your not far from having a very customized space!! Thanks for posting your place.

I second the semi gloss. It shows more imperfections than matt, but like previously stated, cleans up much easier.

Those high ceilings and the center drain are great! I'll echo HSpencer's comment about how organized things are. Definitely better than most.

Nice space! I really like the drain and the lights. Is that a window, too? Nice to bring in some natural light to space.

Yeah it's a 3x2 window but it's north facing. There isn't much that comes in it but I'll take anything at all for natural light.

Not right now. I've had 12 VW/Audis the past 15 years. I just traded my B5 Passat for my E39 Touring last year. I've had a few Bimmers in that timeframe too. I plan to pick up an aircooled after my garage remodel is done.

Ok good answer, i was going to claim false advertising and almost wanted my click back lol.... Its funny a true VW fan has always had a substantial collection of them. Great flip from the B5 passat to the Bimmer wagon. I guess the control arms finally got to you hehehe.

I built my work bench this weekend. I have the bones done, I just need to make some doors and covers so I don't have to look at what's stored underneath. I'll grab a pic.

I did two sheets of 3/4" MDF and did a coat of paste wax on it. I plan to do pegboard above the bench to free up some room in my overcrowded toolbox.


I also picked up the 26 piece Gladiator Kit from Lowes on clearance for $101. It seemed like a good deal and I planned to go Gladiator for my outdoor tools storage anyways. I priced it out and I get quite a bit more accessories buying the kit than just what I needed.

I won't be putting it up until I get some paint on the walls though.

Made some progress this weekend.

Phase 1 Complete- Painted Gray, Built Bench, installed Gearwall, and painted/reconfigured stairs.

Phase 2 - Paint the stem wall, Paint accent stripe at eye level, not sure on what color yet, build over head tire storage above the Gearwall and garage door track, add more outlets, skin work bench, paint doors and trim, Install pedal bike lifts, keep bolstering tool selection and organize

That is crazy, I'm from SW Wisconsin but my wife is from the Farley area so we moved out here.

If you have the space, I'd suggest having the stairs extend forwards. This will allow you to build benches on both sides of the stairs as opposed to one.

Added a VW back to my fleet. Super excited to get working on it!

1970 Beetle. It is purple in the sun, but looks brown/black in other light. It has all new chrome and full tweed interior.

Plans are to narrow the beam 4", add drop spindles, lower the rear, get smaller tires, and add a roof rack this year.
