*SOLD 5/27*

I'm trying to regain some space in my garage by downsizing my toolbox. I would like to go down to a two-bank box (thinking KRL1001) It's in good shape, normal scratches, all drawers slide perfectly. $3000-ish range? Regardless of the cost to purchase I never viewed this box as an "investment"...So, I want to hear what you guys think. Would you consider that reasonable for a large Master Series box, older but still in great shape?

I looked real quick for a desktop pic in my garage..Not great but it's the actual box:

Lists for $4063 brand new.

I'm not going to say what I paid for mine, but I got a bottom, top, side and another small one... all almost new and I paid less than that.

I don't think you'll be selling it for $3,000...to me that seems like a bit much for a box like that, used, in this economy. If you put it up for $2,500 you may get that or close to it.

I think I mistyped it or something. Checked again and for the 1003 it says:

$10,654.90
Your Price:
$5,363.80

It is a bad market for tool boxes as a seller. I would look at other listed boxes and base your price on similar ones that sell.

$5,000 discount? :wtf:

Tell me how!!

My Cornwell guy had a big box on the truck, he said it was 8700.00, but 4900.00 for me if I put it on Tech Credit.:wtf: He said he gets paid right away from Tech Credit and 8K was the going rate for truck finance customers.

If I had a triple bay Cornwell box, it'd be going up on a floor jack first thing ... those rigid casters in the center would get swapped with the swivel casters on the end. ;)

Id pay 2.5k or so for that box wish I had the cash.

If I was you Id try making a deal with snap-on for the box you want. Your likely to get a good trade in value for that box depending on condition and a dealer will turn around and get 5k for that on the truck

Gabriel J,
If you want a lot of storage capacity with a small foot print, a KRL1056A with the matching top chest would do it.

You got that right; however, the drawers have a real neat release mechanism; real easy to operate. :)

Yeah they are kind of a grip latch design. I always hated the lock and roll mechanism on the SO boxes, it wasn't a natural movement to me comparatively. One of these days I need to buy another box to replace my Snap-on one. I kept most of the profit from the sale, and got a Napa 40" top chest and 3, 3 piece Craftsman ball bearing units to get me by. One day the Cman boxes can go in the "apprentice bay", and hold all the Craftsman tools:lol_hitti

I agree, I like tall tool boxes, don't care much for bending down every time I need a tool. I may have to buy a Snap-on box again, I like the one you mentioned (except for the lock and roll). You only need one good tool box for all the most used tools, the bulk stuff can go in cheaper ones, since you don't use them everyday. Unless you work for a dealer and need the lockup for everything, then a smaller one won't do.

I've given some serious thought to changing out the slides for detent slides, but I don't know if there are any availble that size and plus it'd be expensive.

Guess you don't care for the Lock and Roll either huh? I tolerated then ok, but once you grab the drawer of a Cornwell box, or even a Craftsman Pro, one will notice the difference. Maybe you should get a MAC box, they have adjustable detents.:dunno:

You get used to it after awhile; it's easier to use your left hand for opening the drawers though.

Agreed, the lock and roll alone will stop me from buying a snap-on box. With their new model coming out with a griplatch setup, I'm wondering if the rest of the line will get changed over.

I have sold 4 large used tool boxes in the last 8 months, 3 snap on and one matco. If you want to get max dollars, deatail the box inside and out, lube the slides if needed. Make it look great. Presentation is everything. As far as pricing, check the local craigslist and see what people are asking. There will be a wide range, but you will get a feel for the market. Take great pictures and especially a picture from the side with all the drawers open. You need to eliminate the reflection, maybe take the pic outside. Lastly, if you can offer free delivery with in a range, that helps alot.

I'd price it between 3K and 3.5K obo and see what happens. Also be patient. Also post it in the classifieds here. I've sold 2 KRL to GJ members. Good luck:thumbup:

The lock and roll is like gluing a 99 cent cup holder on the dash of a BMW.

If you happen to have your fingers pushing on the rail when you close it the ends snap off.

Decent used Snap On boxes seem to go for about 25% of new list so I guess it would sell for 2K-3K depending on condition and local market. I see a lot of boxes listed over and over again on CL. If I had it I would find room for it. IMHO

I think the waviness might be reflection. My black one is like a mirror.

Let's try this again:

I should have known that everyone would jump on the photo I posted...That was a cropped photo I had from some garage work I was doing...I took some photos today to show the condition of the box a bit better.

Please note you can see my car sitting under it's car cover as well as the door next to the box in the reflection....Maybe I should have said "very good" condition.........-Gabe

That's frickin gorgeous now!!

The dirt on the casters tells a story about the age of the box and the environment it's been in; just like a worn down brake pedal on a used car. You can clean the dust build up out of those caster springs by spraying WD-40 in there and working it in with a paint brush. Wipe off the excess and they'll be glossy black again.

That side handle should be on the same side as the swivel casters. Just sayin' :D

Well, that might be good if it just sits against a wall and never moves. Rigid center casters help in "turning on a dime" to those of us that have to push a behemoth around a 350,000 sq ft manufacturing plant all day long. In and out of narrow aisles and spaces, etc.

Looks much better in those pictures! :pimpflash

Did you put it in the GJ classified section yet? :bounce:
