Cool build! thanks for sharing.

I really dig the railing, what material did you use for the horizontal tubes?

Thanks

Tip: Instead of card board which tends to curl and get kinda nasty looking. Get a sheet of cement board. It soaks up the drippings and doesn't seem to leak through. Plus it looks just like the floor so its not as noticeable. Can be used outside on driveways too.

I just use a big metal tray that's about 3' X 4', they cost about $10.00 ea. The cement board might work, I've never seen it use for that.

Couple questions:
1. What was the rationale in not locating the kitchen sink to under the nearby window to its left?
2. Appears that house is not offset very far from your access road based on short length of new concrete driveway. Did you consider being farther away from road?
3. What are plans for new matching furniture given all the metal finish inside the house?

Also, how about a pic from house up the new driveway?

nice questions!!!

1. Wife didnt want it under the window and I am not going to question since she doesnt question me and my shop layout.

2. based off of land lay out we wanted to be as center as possible but now in or too close to the drycreeks since we dont want flooding.

3. furniture will slowly change out. Most of our cash was used to get this house to a as low as possible cost. Fencing, electrical, driveway, etc was all paid out of pocket.

I will get you a pic tomorrow!! Thanks again for your interest!

we used the staircase on the shop side. this was built for larger items plus it lets the older boys come and go via separate entrance

Railing looks great.
You would never get away with it in NZ though.
Horizontal railings that kids can climb up are not allowed.

Wow, Morio. I lost track of this build after page three and just finished the next 13 tonight. Great build. I have always dreamed of a home in an "industrial" type setting, even designing one as a project in a drafting class in college. My wife would be on board also. subscribed

Morio,
Well, this is really somethin'! What a build, I'm jealous just like all the others. I used to travel for a living as a service engineer in the marine industry before I retired. So if it's not too impertinent of a ? what keeps you on the road so much?

I'm in sales, my company is based in the TPA area, while the head quarters of the account I call on is in Austin. I also have to travel to 11 different regional offices of said account. The company I work for wanted someone who lives in/near the accounts head quarters.

So one week a month, I'm in Tampa. One week in a Regional Office and finally two weeks in my home office or account head quarters

Morio,
I admit when I started reading this thread tonight I was a little "meh" when I saw the industrial steel going up. Tell your wife she did an awesome job. The color, look, and feel of that building exterior is very well done. It looks fantastic. Quite a home inside and out.

Quick update... still no electricity in my shop side, it's been hard to find an electrician to come out this far. But with some help of our friends looks like I have 2 bids to choose from. Hopefully next week someone will be here to finish that off and then I can order my compressor and 2 post lift.

Tomorrow our wood burning stove gets installed (another delay of roughly 4 wks)... While we are quite pleased with everything so far it's still a "hurry up and wait" kinda build.

I did however pick up my "ranch rig" 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo a low 74k miles well maintained truck that I couldn't pass up! I have some nice wheels and about to order some BFG AT tires for it.... the local PCA guys will have a fit :p
