I got this box and stand about 6 months ago from a estate company in Syracuse. They have a store where all the unsold estate stuff goes. Saw it listed on CL and it said "Box, stand and all tools $150". When I got there it has a sticker on it that was $300. I asked about it and didn't mention the ad I saw. He said "If you like it I would take $200 for it". I said "Great, tools and stand included right?". "Oh no, not for that price". I mentioned the ad and he didn't believe me so I should it to him on my smart phone. He called his teenage son over and said "Did you list this on CL?". Long story short the son was supposed to list just the box, not the stand or tools. Since I had come a long way for it he let me have it all for $150. It is a home made box but done very well, looks to be 70+ years old. When I got it home I found that the stand was made out of old Ford parts, maybe running boards or something. Box was filled with tools. Lots of typical junk n(worn out files, crappy screw drivers) but a few drawers full of vintage Snap On, Wright, Bonnie and Cornwell sockets. It has a front cover just like a machinist box but I leave it off since I use the drawers often and don't want to keep taking it off.

I think you may have gotten played just by a little.

Often, when someone post something on CL they expect whoever shows up to talk the price down. That didn't happen here, instead they played it to where they made a posting "error" and did you a big favor since you drove quite a distance to shop at their store.

Nice enough box though but $150's too much for most of the garage and estate sale hunters around here.

I'm not sure I agree. And I'm certainly more than on the cheap side when it comes to buying...

I'd like to see what all came with the box. The stand is extremely cool, and to the snob set, would probably bring 2X what he paid alone.

The box appears to be extremely well made, and if it is it would command a good price by itself.

Heck I just paid $100 today for a three drawer craftsman that is 80+ years old...

Nice pickup in my opinion, looks like excellent quality and you got some good quality tools to boot

You are kidding right? You can not find a little bench top wood machinist box anymore for less that $150 in good shape. If you can find one this size with a stand and loaded with tools and expect to talk them down more then you will be watching as the next guy loads it into his car while laughing at you. If you could have seen the dads reaction and the sons looks of "oh ****, I am going to get it after you leave" you would know it wasn't a set up. Hopefully they think they got a good price for it because I sure think I did.

Don't mind Marc, he is one of those that has to dicker for the sake to where nothing is cheap enough. As long as you are happy with it that is all that matters. Interested to see what all tools came in the box. Post some details such as dimensions and construction methods used throughout the box.

Finding a box with 10 thin drawers and 6 slightly deeper ones isn't that common. I can see where you could get a lot of use out of that setup. Does the cover store in the bottom of the box under the drawers?

No, no storage for the cover like most machinist boxes have. I just leave it up on a shelf so it doesn't get damaged. Dang think sure is heavy, probably weighs around 120-150 lbs. The stand is at least 75lbs. When loaded with tools it becomes very stubborn and wishes not to be moved, haha.

Good find. I see some old Snap on and what appears to be SK in that drawer. Show us the rest of the haul.
