Went by today and picked up a 782 in the League City TX store for 200 bucks. They wouldn't match the HF coupon but oh well. I called Friday and asked the lady on the phone to search with the internet number and she said it was online only. Went in the store today and gave them the SKU which was given earlier and showed they had 4 on hand. All of them were in top stock and there wasn't any on display or any labels where the miter saw were. I would definitely go in or call and give them SKU #917666. Good luck.

Similar for me.. First store I called just wanted to check online but I had to ask to search specifically in their inventory. Lazy employees

I was speaking to some of the employees trying to find out if the clearance prices ending in 04 are the new 03's meaning the final mark down price. Unfortunately no one could give me an answer. Has anyone found out if this is the case?

Not sure how true/accurate but they refer to Home Depot here:

http://www.10news.com/money/cracking-secret-price-codes-target-home-depot-costco

Last digit seems to signify time till next mark down, but Im guessing at some point they must return to vendor or turn them into a Unicorn deal ($0.01 if you can somehow manage to purchase at that price)

Id be interested to see what happens to the Ryobi battery 2 packs....they end in 04 right now and Ive found some stores with a bunch of them left.

It seems like everything that has a Special Buy printed on the box is going on clearance. If you see this on anything check the price. For the guys that are still looking for the saws and drills you have to physically go and check the stores regardless if they tell you that they have none in stock. Even if they check their store inventory and it says zero on hand. For some reason it seems like Home Depot gets to a point where they put clearanced items down to zero on hand in their system even though they have them in stock. I have come across this way to much over the years.

Perfect example of this happen a few days ago when i was looking for the $100 Dewalt combo kit. The store that i was at showed zero on hand on their hand held. I ended up finding 9 of the kits up in the racks.

I'm gonna go back in a couple weeks and see if they still have some saws left. Might even drop some more. Not that I need 2 but if the price is right......

Yea, I know that when it is at 03 it goes down to a penny after that and they are told not to sell it. But now I am seeing a lot of things that end in 04. I am hoping they do at least one more mark down so that I can get an adjustment on the things I have bought so far.

The prices that end in 03 are the final mark down. The ones ending in 04 are something new that I have started to see over the last month or two. I was trying to find out if these prices are considered to be final mark downs as well. The reason being is that the things I have bought have ended in 04.

Overhead storage FTW! Although my local stores have started to get smart about not stocking tons and tons of the same item.

I bought and resold 4 or 5 of the DeWalt 735 planer...HD had them down to $137 on clearance....all stores had "zero" but all you had to do was look up. Same went for the granite top table saw when they clearanced it.....my local store got a kick out of it when I told them to get a forklift and meet me in millwork to pick up my saw. "But we dont have any", uh huh.

But like I said, around here they are wising up....inventory = money.

^^same when they put the DW715 on clearance at $150. Had to look up & they had several.

If you can find a helpful associate they usually will track it down for you. I had a recent experience with this.

That's a BIG "if" though...

Heh, Ive gotten a few penny deals

Various Trex labelled railing parts
Ridgid 18V jigsaw

and the grandaddy of them all....Ryobi One+ lithion 4 tool combo kit. I think on the kit I pumped in a dime and ran like hell. The "new" version (for $250) of the kit was exactly the same as the penny version, but with a different box.

When was the DW735 on sale that cheap!? And I was not aware they ever carried a granite table saw. Was this recent?

How are you able to find those .01 deals? I'm assuming the tag doesn't say "$.01" or they wouldn't be on the shelf long.

You know you are the Penny Master I aspire to be like one day. Last good one was the $200 Kohler kitchen faucet and one big fail was a 36" granite vanity that was too big/heavy for the running/dash self-check out :(
But I wanted it so $35 was cool

Ill check the receipts for my DW735s. I want to say 2008-ish? They had clearanced it for 274 initially. I found whatever I could and bought them. Then one day I was in my really local store and they had one left, marked down to 137. Then I got a price adjustment on all the others :) Sold each one on CL for 450 or so (Lowes still sells this model to this day, for 599). EDIT: it was the summer of 2009

Granite table saw - they made it for 2 years or so. I think it was literally too heavy for them to deal with....the saw itself was 500 lbs and was shipped in a steel frame that weight another 60 or 70. Since its granite a lot of them had cracked wings, but the saw itself was excellent (cabinet mounted trunions, decent dust collection, etc). IIRC it was a relabelled Steel City model. "Full" price was 499, clearance was down to 225 at one point....I got one for 225 for a family member.

Penny deals I usually find out about on the net (SlickDeals mostly). Sometimes you can kind of tell....if there is a ratty box of an item and its the only one, good chance its at least on clearance. Go to the self checkout, press the Price Check button and then the volume button (which will mute the automated speaker)...if you see a price you like, press add to transaction and pay. For the stuff that might be a penny I like going when its busy, less chance the kiosk attendant catches it.

I think on my jigsaw I actually paid by debit card....just to be a smart *** :)

I still don't understand this - what exactly is the speaker saying? "Dear attendant, your attention is immediately required. This item registers as one penny." ??

It announces the price, quite loudly!

Dont want to alert the drones that you have a penny item.

I could swear my self check just beeps each time you scan an item. I don't recall it saying the price.

Hmm, wonder if theyve changed it. Ive just always put it on mute to be sure.

Wow just called my local store trying to find the saw. Like three time what are you looking for. I said here is the SKU number. Yes but what is it?

Finally I said can't you just search the SKU that should be pretty simple. I got a loud sigh and a transfer. Lol

And no luck.

So even though I just called 5 stores and all are out of stock I should still go take a look at the store?

Last week I was on my way to my local HD in the evening after work and called them to see if they had the saw (didn't have the SKU#). I had just left my not-so-local store about 30 miles away (it's actually closer to my job). Figured between the two I'd SURELY be able to snag one of these babies...

Not-so-local store = no dice (I actually looked for it myself on the shelf and in top storage)

Local store on the phone = "Nah we ain't got that"

I thought O well maybe next time. Called today with the SKU and the helpful lady said we are out and it looks like we sold the last one Saturday or Sunday...grrr

Yeah that was AFTER I had called when I was ON MY WAY THERE! Coulda picked it up last week

Moral of the story: If it's during the day you can more than likely take their word for it especially with the SKU. Evening time, go check in person.

Today I found an air hose reel on clearance. Normally $89, got it for $23. Also scored on one of the Dewalt saws for $200. I'm happy.

The hose reel was an Airflo 3/8ths x 50'. SKU 301-586. Normal cost $89.98, paid $22.03. I havnet seen these at other home depots but I don't normally look for stuff like that.

Make sure they aren't just looking online at the same info anyone can see.. that's what they did to me at first, but finally got them to look at whatever system they have that will show them inventory at their store (and others)

Like I said before, it does not matter what they say. When things go on clearance it gets to a point where they change it to an online only item when you try to look it up online. Even if they check the store inventory with their handheld and it says zero, it does not mean that they are actually out of stock. You still have to check for yourself to make sure you don't find any up in the racks. They try to keep everything in the department that the item is sold in. With that being said, you still have to check the entire store, not just the department where they would normally be.
