I have been keeping an eye on craigslist locally in Chicago and seems like people want a ton of money for good old vises. I saw a used Wilton 10 dollars cheaper then new price on Amazon. I would even just go for the sears vise but I know people have bought it for close to 100 dollars. Spending 50 more then other people would annnoy me to no end. Is there any regularity to Sears sales?

What is the country of origin? If USA, sounds well worth it for a new vise. If it's China I'd walk away. Very important as far as vises go.

They sure don't offer much product info there.

If it were I personally, I'd be happy enough using that vice. If you're planning on being an ape with it, then something a bit more robust might be in order, but if it's going to be getting considerate use, then I'd have it.

I would pass and get the home depot Irwin brand that has a lifetime warranty if they still have it for less. Then keep an eye for an old us made one on cl. I have found swivel head comes in handy for odd jobs even with a stronger alternative in the garage too.

Anything Irwin would be the last choice on my list, personally.

Yeah I have broken one with a hard stare, but the lifetime warranty makes it worth it. Make sure to save the box if anyone buys one btw

I feel your pain. If you can make it to the Chicago suburbs, PM me about a Rock Island 723. And I'd bet it weighs more than that Palmgren.
