Divesit, this is a Vise site so I'll keep it simple: If Manning retires you will lose Wilson to Denver. He should have already been locked up but your owner is cheap. Brady has 4, count 'em, 4 super bowl rings thank you very much. And lastly there was no pass interference on the interception because both players were making a play on the ball.:lol_hitti Seattle never should have given up 14 points so easily in the 2nd half to an old guy like Brady.

And yes we did make a deal with the devil but not for the football team, rather for all the vises. I'm constantly tripping over, every day, in every town I visit, beautiful old vises that are dirt cheap. I wont even look at small 3-4" stuff that I've seen before because what am I going to do with it? I only look for BIG and/or unique vises now, unless someone give it to me. And don't tell me about your pallet thing again because I burned that damned pallet after your Patriots comment a couple of posts ago!!!!:lol::evil:

One for the thumb next year... best ever...

It isn't a 6"... It's only a 3-1/2".

That is the "HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE HAS PRICE"!
GO BUY IT NOW!!!

Grouseman, Zoomie et al.... you guys are just GREAT:beer:

OK I spoke to the seller and it is mine at full price. He had other calls on it (surprise, surprise). Now Grouseman, remember how I told you I'd sell it to you for what I bought it for unless I REALLY, REALLY had to have it? Well that was before I found out it has 7" JAWS!! 7"!!! I really, really want it.

He says he thinks it weighs 100 lbs. It weighs a lot more than that. He told me it belonged to his grandfather who had an auto repair shop and that he learned to work on cars on that vise. He used to bicycle down to the shop and play with it as a kid. Bucky said it works great. He said that ANYTHING you clamp into that doesn't come out until you want it to.

Thanks again guys.

WOW, I take a few hours off to go clear snow and come back to 3 pages to catch up on. This thread has been busy.

Drives - Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. Sour Grapes.
I watched the game with my BIL and friends. We laughed, we cried, we drank, we screamed, we cussed, we cheered. And then .......... we watched a parade in the snow. What did you do after the game.

I'm more of a soccer fan, the Revolution went to the MLS Cup this year. Where did the Sounders watch the game ?

So here's a question - has any of the UK GJers or Record vice/vise collectors seen a 4x series Record vise?

Thrumcap
:canada:

What's the specific model number, or do you have a photo of one?

No.s 46,48,49 Heavy Duty Vise, found in the depths of a 1921 Record vise catalog i have, and am planning on contacting Irwin Tools to see if i can turn it into an ebook.

The No. 49 weighs 250 lbs and has 10" jaws. I cannot find any mention nor photo of any of these on the internet.

The largest one I have seen a photo of is the Record 118 (although I think they misidentified it and it might be the Record 118 1/2).

EDIT: and of course just after I post this, I skip over to Gumtree and WHAT do I ****** see?

Record No. 48 vice, 36" long, 240 lbs, 8" jaws, restored, £550 GBP or a mere $840 USD or a trifling $1056 CDN :willy_nil:willy_nil:willy_nil ...Request for photos sent

Does anyone have one of these? I've come across them a few times at online auctions, usually in Canada or near the border in the US. I have not had any luck searching for manufacturer info. I think the name universal is too generic to find a good search result. It appears to be a rotating vise with a swivel front jaw.

Sod's law, as always. :D First time I've seen one of those. Similar styling to the 3X series, with some beefed up portions. It's the weight which amazes me. I honestly never knew we'd produced any vices at that type of weight.

Joe,---I was as serious as a dozen kidney stones.---I would have jumped on it with a fat finders, quicker than you could say Bob's your uncle.---I would have taken it if it was a 4 or 5 incher and not asked any questions.---I watched a 7 incher on E-bay, go off at well over $1000.00, two years ago.---Most have the post removed on those Fishers, and I don't know why.---They just don't pop up very often, and usually have something removed from it, from it's original state.---The Indian Chiefs fetch a good premium, but the Fishers are ridiculous.---Excellent catch.

B100,---Is that your little Universal rotator.---That is unique.---All it lacks is pipe jaws, and that would be the absolute total package.---Once again, when you think there couldn't possibly be one out there that hasn't been posted, there it is.

b100, I've never seen one of those, but I have a compound angle drill press vise made by that company. Looks pretty cool, would buy one if I found a cheap/reasonable one.

No. I wish I had one, though. I was poking around in my vise files and ran across the picture.

I've seen those before. I wonder if this was from the same company or they just used the name universal as the model name.

Wow, nice find! I have a 33CPN (3-1/2"), amongst others.

The Ridgid's are very similar to the Desmond's, however there are differences, not only in the shapes, but also the weight. They are too inconsistent to simply be "relabeled" Desmond's IMHO... (But I could be wrong)...

Columbian's are their own breed, while they look similar on the outside, the insides are totally different. The castings are hollow (hence the lighter weights), the main screw is BIGGER, and the main screw nut is also totally different shape.

How much you pay, if you don't mind me asking?
I have a 61CPN in very nice shape like the pictures in the post before this one , Does anyone here know how to determine the date of when it was made ? any help would be appreciated

Pretty sure it's the same co., I remember it because of the "Parma", always wondered if they were somehow tied into Palmgren.

Parma sounds awfully familiar for some reason. You've got me wondering if I've got something here with that name on it now. I know I've seen it stamped on something, but can't remember whether it's just a photo I've seen of something or a piece I might have knocking about somewhere.

This little guy is listed as a Parker 25X. Can anyone give additional info on?

Blue

The price is way high. I'm tired of looking at it. :lol_hitti I don't think it is that big based on the fact it is sitting on a floor jack. ~4" would be my guess.

Well there was a question about Record 4x series vices on here yesterday, I'd not heard of them but what do I see today? A record 48! It's similar to a 36 but without the anvil ..... but much bigger!

Apparently 8" jaws 12" opening and 36" front to back ... oh and for the weight watchers amongst us 240lb.

Now I really want this vice .... unfortunately this is way out of my price bracket :(

If you have the means go for it! That doesn't seem too high for what it is considering what beasts have been selling for lately. You may never see another one again and that IS proper size for a GJ members bench :lol_hitti
I'm putting my money where my mouth is, next week I get to pick my my bench beast.

Anyone have this vise mounted (under) to their workbench? I was looking to get a wilton bullet machinist 4-5" jaw for my workbench but it cost way too much and kinda hard to find. Anyone care to sell me one?

Is that handle removable, anyone know?
