Very nice, Dennis! Looks as if you have a nice little machining setup there with the SB mill and, I assume, SB lathe? Also, liking the idea of the plywood fit over the mill bed.

Where did you get the large SB decimal equivalent charts hanging on the wall?

Hi John..

Yes, that's a SBL 10K. I've also got a SBL 7" bench shaper, SBL pedestal grinder, and a SBL 14" drill press..

The SBL "promotional" items or white on blue prints are classic.. I've purchased them from Ted Pflugner who worked at SBL for many years before it was purchased by Monarch then Grizzly. He purchased the local South Bend area SBL dealer and all their stock as well as continuing to build that inventory over the course of the original SBL's demise.

I've purchased quite a few items from Ted including those charts, and another one on tips to become a machinist (I'll have to find that picture and post it later). I've also got a "parts of the lathe" picture above my lathe, although I already had that from many years ago.. Ted prefers an email as his contact method.

Ted Pflugner. Parts Works. 59300 Keria Trail. South Bend, IN 46614. 574-291-2349. Cell-574-340-4004. e-mail: [email protected]

I also found the charts on page 654 of the 2015 grizzly catalog. Tapatalk took the liberty of rotating the picture for me.

Ok I'll play... Here's a peak of my build in progress. New benches, and cabinet set up. My garage only had one outlet upon buying the house so I added a number of new outlets on a dedicated circuit. This shows the electrical rough in behind my bench, and how I set up my pegboard. I'm far from finished!... I apologize if the pics aren't too bright, there's only one light in that huge 14' ceiling so far!.

I have pegboard in the past, but the hooks and things kept coming out of the pegboard which I found to be very annoying. How do you guys keep the hooks and things from coming out, or do you just life with it? Thanks

For the standard metal hooks, I found I wrapping the inserted ends with electrical tape (cut in half along the width) allows them to sit in the peg board quite tightly.

Made the wrench holders out of some 1/2" sq tube and a bunch of 1/4" bolts with heads cut off and welded to the tube. Standard wrenches on the left and metrics on right.

My woodshop workbench with pegboard. Metal area one is kind of empty.

Second pic is a TV stand I just built, used pegboard for the backing for something different.

Earlier (post #10) I had started adding a piece of pegboard to small are that's kind between door cabinets and drill press. I used some left over white I had, free, thought it would add some light, and free. I didn't update with pics of installation because..

attachment.php

....Hated it.
Been a couple of weeks, kept rearranging stuff on it-didn't help, still white. I was getting ready to paint, other than picking a color not knowing if would still stand out like sore thumb, nixed. Then I was going to try to collage like nine4gmc. I like that, thought that might be cool, spent an hour finding paste, some old Motherearth catalogs that have some nice line machine & odd contraption drawings of assorted types, and old eng book then decided not. This is all but hidden area i just don't want to see.. and the answer, is replace (read buy) with brown pegboard like I should have in the 1st place...shop is all wood or pegboard, brown.

Usually free overrides ugly...function overrides form-but dang it looked like ****.
Ripped it out..
I didn't know, as it was installed 'Forever', if it would come out in one piece,
If it would could use as pattern. Quite a bit of trim & fit originally to get in and behind cabinet. But it did, easier than it went in. So went and picked a sheet of brown, have some other shelves that eventually will get doors so will get used up.
attachment.php

Traced piece to new pegboard, cut about 1/8" smaller as it was tight. Still fought it. Need to ensure it fit before gluing and stapling<p>
attachment.php

What picture above shows is me taking a break...the sheet is STUCK. To get in the sheet has to both roll and bend. This sheet wouldn't do either. Measured, its 1/4" thick, the white was 3/16". I thought with one mighty heave it would go-it didn't.
When I finally got out did some more trimming.

attachment.php

After I finally got where I could get in without too much effort, pulled back out one last time, applied some adhesive to the furring strips, slid back in stapled and add a few screws.

attachment.php

Crack me up sometimes. Wont spend half an ounce of energy to do something just out of laziness- then turn around and spend half a day...
Well we like, just blends in, don't notice the area, stuff not falling behind cabinet. Did find some 1/4" hooks with welded stubs. Got most of the pole goods behind out of view (seldom used). Some of the heavier stuff I haven't hung yet.
back to work...

reviving old thread. I was looking for ideas.

Here is a picture of mine. In few weeks I hope to build a 24" deep and 8 ft long wood work bench in front of my peg board. I will most likely reorganize peg board again.

any one else got pictures of your pegboard?

thanks

I had a small section next to the stairs leading into the house. Last night I moved it to above my small craftsman cart. I did this solely because of the picture you posted. I won't be able to do something as cool as you did, but you've inspired me. :)

I'll chime in. Just put this up a week or so ago. Still working on unpacking the tools crammed in tool boxes from the move (2.5yrs ago) and adding them to the wall.

Didn't you post a thread about black pegboard and settled on painting it? If so, are you pleased with your attempt?

Yes, I did. I don't know that I would use the word "pleased". I guess it turned out ok, but I was really hoping for a super high gloss, slick finish. My concern with achieving this with a roller (and my skill level) was validated by this attempt. All that being said, I can tell now, that once all the tools are up, you won't be able to see the many imperfections. So it'll be good, and in the end, it's a workshop, not a museum.

Glad to hear it and I echo your sentiments. Besides, the metal pegboard is crazy expensive and it would have been covered up as well.

wow...some nicely organized areas posted here....mine's quite a bit less organized, but works for me. I keep all the regularly used tools there and keep most of my good tools in the tool box.
Also use my pegboard as a place to put all the stickers I manage to pick up

Thank you - yeah, I really like the look of it. It's leftover pre-finished hardwood flooring from my daughter's condo. T&G and the edging just holds it in place.

Nice to see someone besides me using finishing cup washers. It really tidies up the installation.

that's exactly why i posted that pic. I love em. I didn't use them on my last one at the old house and regretted it.

I have a few large open end wrenches on pegboard. I am happy with wallpeg brand pegs. They don't come out unless you really pull.

I did find out recently that they have two diameters of pegs. They do not say that on their site. I ordered a peg kit, this is the second time i have ordered, and they were real loose. I called and they told me 1/4" pegs are sold with the plastic pegboard kits. I orderd pegs only and received something around .200" diameter pegs. So I wasted $9 to send them back and they sent me the 1/4" size I wanted. Make sure you order by phone and specify 1/4", if using with 1/4" pegboard.

What brand wrench is that v groove satin one in the top center?

It is a cheap wrench.
Asian.
Quality is pretty poor.
Called Chromium brand or something like that. I will look later.
It was the only 32mm i had so it went on the wall. I have a few more of them in a "extra tools" tool box.
