Did anyone on here snag this 8 1/2" vise off ebay yet?? only $2500. I am not sure of the make but the looks familiar. i will se what it really looks like as this one has no name. For 2500 is ought to be a 10" ,350# with a swivel base! Just my 2 cents

It looks like an attempt to let paint hide some sins. When zooming in on the ebay pics it appears there are areas that were damaged and repaired. Some faint signs of welding. On one side of both jaws and down along the back side of the static jaw next to the slide. It just has that look of hiding things.

Understatement of the day. :D Five notes well spent.

Thanks, Fretters and Outlaw. I thought my Yost 343 was something recent and pretty cheap - exposed screw y'know. Your comments made me look into it a little deeper. I should have realized immediately it can't be current because it predates the move to Holland, MI. So, it's vintage - so says the ePay guy trying to get $90 for one!
Pretty much luck on my part. It was a cold day, no traffic at the sale, so the sellers were willing to deal. I nearly passed on it for lack of a swivel base, but the name Yost made me make an offer. Glad I did!

VA I agree the big vise might be a Barrett like the one posted. I know I have one with a similar odd shaped handle like that one but I am not home. I will check them tonite and see if anything else compares. I cannot understand vise companies not putting their name on them. My theory is that it was done by companies that were bought out and sold the remaining stock without a name under the radar to a supply house. I know Barrett was bought by Yost and they already had a big vise so maybe??

Question - What wouold you guys pay for this vise on ebay??????
I think about 600-800 at the most with the repairs I see. Just curious

Demo: i have to agree with Zoomie. as much as i want an 8 inch vise i'd hate to spend money on that one with the holes drilled in the jaws and all the hidden issues. if i had your crew i'd be even pickier and maybe buy a few small vises because they seem to attract the bigger ones. sort of like fishing for big fish with little fish.

cheers

Here are the picsuploadfromtaptalk1424016796025.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424016806208.jpg
Anybody have any info on these???

Sure looks like a Parker to me. The curved C shaped jaw inserts, the screw retainer. Pix of the retainer would be helpful. I'm guessing it must not be marked Parker or you wouldn't be asking??
Could be private-labeled, like the Snap-Ons that are actually Wiltons.

Brad,
Columbian used cat no. 108 1/2 on the side, but the knob on this one looks like what I've seen on some Barrett's. I think both were made by Prentiss since they look like the Prentiss 58 and neither Barrett nor Columbian ever sold a vise with that design other than these huge chipping vises.

I would like to ask some of you if by chance you can identify this small vise. It's approx. 8 inches long. It appears to be old but, I'm not sure. Any ideas on it would be appreciated. Thank You.

It also looks like the Champion swivel vise at the top right of this ad.

B100,---Believe you got it with the Champion.

Demo,---I wouldn't cough up much on that old vise if any.---But I would go $800.00, maybe better on the Barrett like you posted on Page 312,---post 6227. If it was as big as the seller said it was, it should have been between 250 and 275 lbs., and it swivels.---Don't see many Barretts.

So what does the "X" stand for??

There are some on here that can give you a pretty good historical of Parker vises, I have some limited info.

Their first vises were around 1860's and were oddball models and sizes....like 0000, 1,2 and other random models

Somewhere just before or around the turn of the century they came out with the Eclipse & Superior series.

The first gen Eclipse were the 100 series for fixed bas & 200 series for swivel, then later replaced with the 2nd gen which were 950 for fixed and 970 for swivel.

The superior 2nd gen were the 800 series, the 803, 805...being fixed and the same in the 820's series like 823 & 825 being swivel.

The superior 1st gen were these X models. All of the 29x, 39x, 49x and so on were fixed, the same model starting with a 2 like 229x, 239x, 249x were the same but with a swivel.

The Eclipse were great vises but the Superior were considered the super duty model, so Joe may be correct, the "X" might have meant heavy duty.

Saw this at a flea market near me. Guys asking $65. No markings, nice anvil in excellent shape. I'll buy and ship if anyone wants it. Not looking to make a penny. Could possibly ship in 2 flat rate boxes. I don't think it will fit in one.

I found this little guy buried at a very disorganized sale this morning. An Athol 623 in excellent albeit very dirty condition. The jaws line up almost perfectly and there is no slop. The handles are straight and the jaws themselves still have a lot of bite left in them. I gladly paid the $15 asking price.

Unbelievable! You ****.
I have a 613 for strictly electronic work. Awesome.

Does this look familiar? Not many great shape Reeds in this area. imo, the price is right, but no one is buying. It has been on sale for a while.

No one is buying it because the price isn't right for a "not your typical spraybomb". I literally did the same thing on Friday to a Reed 214r, $30 for the vise $6 for the spray can and maybe 45-minutes of wirewheel/varsol/paint.

I found one just like it a couple weeks ago. It had a drill chuck with it that went down the center of the screw. I'll try and get some pics up in the next couple days. I paid about the same.... 60.00

What kind of electronic work are you doing with it? I'm probably picturing something completely different.

I've tried googling about this vise without luck. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Looks pristine except for the crappy paint job:

Craftsman Japan made 5(?)" vise. Basic bench vise with pipe jaws. Appears to have had a heavy repaint.

Looks like a Craftsman, some made in USA, some in Japan, quality seems about the same.

You know, that's an idea I hadn't thought of. I might use a large engineering vice for holding circuit boards, obviously overkill but a nice idea :) I suppose a wood working vice might be a more sensible idea with some insulated jaws, but I can't recall the last time anyone called me sensible.....

Pana-Vise make setups specifically for holding circuit cards, Fully adjustable for angle/tilt. (Think very light duty Wilton power arm)

Not mine, (but I have both of them)

I like the look of that second one, looks like it would be handy for the more irregular shaped boards I tend to deal with.

I wonder if they are available in the UK? I'll see if I can get work to buy some.

Cheers for the pics :)

How do you find they are in use?

Took a break from moving effing snow to go pickup this Reed 134-1/2. Appears to be in excellent unmolested condition, seller said it was his dads, he never used it. He thought it was from the 50's, I suspect it is considerably older than that. Also told me someone from TN wanted him to ship the vise, one of you guys trying to poach vises out of state? Said it weighs 80 lbs., seems about right, 4.5" jaws. Don't usually get too excited about exposed screw vises, but this is built hell for stout.
