Hey vise men,

Friend in Atlanta sent me a pic of an old vise, anyone know who would have made this?

Thanks

Looks like China junk to me... jaws are cast in and they left those big, ugly casting seams.

I'm not so sure on it being an import. I seem to remember some other vise in the vise mega thread with those same type of V numbers. It's no Reed or Wilton, but could be an American made home owner type vise. Nothing to really get excited about, but if cheap enough......

Dan: i think that is a 1950's or early 60's maybe a Milwaukee or one of several other brands. that style vise was made and has maybe 10-20 different brand names on them like Littlestown and many others.

it doesn't look to be in bad shape, but it is a light duty vise that could use some oil or grease on the screw. i actually know some very handy guys that have one of those vises on their bench.

With the wide jaws, that vise would actually function well as woodworker's vise. Picture even shows bottle of glue so that may be how prior owner used it.

Appears to be missing the swivel screwdown.

For right price, just find a use for it. Clean up, lube and use.

ANYTHING with an open screw is a pass......unless it's free or damb near

There's nowt wrong with open screw vices. A tad inconvenient, maybe, but a cloth can easily be chucked over the screw during use. There have been some good vices which used a non enclosed screw design. The Record 74 & 75 are two which spring to mind.
