"Product Weight: 88.89 lbs" not sure but after shipping this might come out to more than TSC charges for hardware by the pound. I don't know if TSC has all these sizes or if theirs is Grade 5 or Grade 8. I believe these fastenal ones are grade 5

Fleet is $2.59 for Grade 5 I believe, so I am sure TSC is higher.

Saw this today and of course its the weekend so can't call Fastenal. Shipping here to SoCal kills this deal for me. So I laid down for awhile 'til the thought went away, but then remembered there are local suppliers of nuts & bolts & fasteners. Check in your area too, you may have someone local that can make almost as good of a deal without all the shipping costs.

Here in SoCal there is Hillco Fastener Warehouse, http://hillcofasteners.com/ , in Gardena that I've used before for dress-up hardware for an engine rebuild. They carry nut & bolt assortments similar to what Fastenal has on clearance. Here is a link to their SAE fine thread selections:
http://hillcofasteners.com/cat/Pro-...5-Pro-Shop-Assortments/SAE-(Fine-Thread).aspx
You have to spend about $200 to get a range similar to the Fastenal clearance but if you are in SoCal you can drive over there on a Saturday morning. They also show up at the Long Beach Swap Meet sometimes. The Hillco assortment comes with a compartmented metal drawer for the fasteners so you don't have to deal with the storage problem.
They also carry metric assortments.

Honestly I dont think this is that great of a deal unless you specifically have a need for the fine thread. Theres just too much selection and not enough quantity. To top it off, its fine thread. Almost nothing I encounter uses fine thread standard, so that limits this set to building new things.

For example, 200 1/4bolts, 100 1/4washers, and 50 nuts. Now you have to go buy another 100 washer and 150 nuts just to utilize all of the bolts they sold you.

Really the only place I see value is in the larger sizes but again it only has 5 of each size. I just dont use fasteners that large very often and when I do its generally a lot more than 5 of them, because if it requires a 3/4 bolt it needs more than 1 per joint

If you don't like it don't buy it, your analysis is incomplete. You get 150 1/4" nuts total. Plus, I don't plan on using every 200 1/4 bolt, for this price 100 washers will be fine. You do make a point though

I'm a machinist, I specifically have a need for fine thread and my second empty 72 hole bin will look badass filled w hardware after sitting empty for years, waiting for a deal like this!

But the more people who decide it's not for them the better -- just makes it that much more likely I'll actually receive mine! Come to think of it, this is a horrible deal. Grade 5 will fail just sitting still and fine thread is stupid. No one should order!!

In all seriousness, Warn 9000# winches are shipped with four 3/8" Gr5 fine thread bolts to retain them to winch bumper or whatever of your choice. Most people who think they need Gr8 are mistaken; if you're doing something that is going to make Gr5 fine-thread fastener fail its unlikely a Gr8 coarse thread would fair much better, and/or you're utilizing a poorly designed [insert part here].

But still a terrible deal!! No one order!

I missed the lock nuts, but again a lock nut is not wanted in every situation. And the incomplete sets of hardware applies to every size in the kit. Its not a deal breaker its just something I noticed. I never slammed the OP for posting it and I never said it was a bad deal, I just pointed out something that others may not think about.

Thats my point. The first page is filled with people claiming this is a steal and it is for people that commonly find themselves needing fine thread bolts. The vast majority of people dont though (why its on clearance in the first place). This place is just like slick deals and people will buy every single item they can just because someone says its a good price.

I just wanted to point out an aspect that someone who is getting ready to impulse buy $400 worth of hardware may not see. they may never find a need for it while someone like you could use it. They get to spend their money on the next deal and you get the hardware you want.

Ok, got mine yesterday. After $31-ish shipping and $171 with tax I'm into this for a few bucks over $200 after tax.

It comes in at 105lbs on a cheap bathroom scale I keep in the shop for just such purposes. We'll call it 100 for easy math although I very much doubt a single cardboard box 16x9x10" and all the plastic bags add up to 5 lbs.

My TSC is $3.69/lb for Gr5 coarse (they don't carry fine thread). So even if they had fine thread I'd be at ($3.69 x 100) x 1.08 sales tax = $398.52.

So, basically half price.

I agree with checking local first. I just picked up 1,850 pc grade 8 fine thread 40 hole bolt bin (bin included) plus a box of 100 G8 nylocks in each size for $291 out the door at Copper State Nut and Bolt. 1/4" to 1/2", bolts, washers, flat washers, nuts, and nylocks. All made in USA, including the Durham bolt bin. They also have course thread bins as well. I don't use much over 1/2", but Copper State is usually cheaper to buy a whole box than buying 2 single pieces at the hardware store.

Woohoo the wife worked her *** off all day cleaning up a grungy used gray bin I had been given years ago. I now have fine thread next to my coarse (blue bin)!! I was really pleased to find that this kit included all the stickers.

I called a store I've never been to before to order the kit for $157 last week. When they asked if I had an account I told them that I've never been there and he said no problem. Took my name and number. He called me back the same day and asked if I minded two week truck freight for $30. I said no problem.

So no account number, no payment, nothing. When I pick it up do you think it will be the $157 price or the current price? Just trying to gauge how the fastenal system works.

Thanks

We did confirm the price was $157, I'm just hoping I was locked in for that price, even though I didn't pay at that time.

WHen they call and tell you its ready for pickup, ask him the total. If its too high tell him he can keep it.

Good point. I was worrying for nothing anyway. It came in today, about two weeks early. Total with shipping and 6% sales tax was $200.01 out the door.

Thanks a lot for posting this deal. Would have preferred coarse but it's a great start.
