Hi Guys

I just found this forum the other day and love this site so far. I've read Dubbers build thread and am thoroughly impressed. I hope to be at something similar when all is said and done.

I have bought a house with a fair sized garage. Its a double.... and it's deep. I'll do a build thread when I start on it. The house is older (mid 90s), and I'm doing this on a shoe string budget to start.

This is my labour of love that lives in my garage.

This is my garage thus far. The boat doesn't live there anymore.

Glad I found this forum. You guys have some great looking garages from the brief time Ive had to skim through so far.

Urban: you might want to put your location in your profile so when you start posting in other areas of the forum members can give area specific questions to your answers. great looking Audi.

i like your upper storage area in your garage. did you build that? can you take a few pictures of how it is attached to the ceiling and the other walls?

sounds like you know how the forum works and if you have any questions just ask and we'll try to help. i usually hang in the old tools sections so maybe see you over there if you have any interest in them.

cheers

fixed my location.

I'd like to take credit for that upper storage but it was there when we bought the house.

It's straight 2x4 contruction. The perimeter is nailed to the studs in the walls. The 2x4s in the middle of the deck are simply hung with joist hangars. The verticle 2x4s go up into the attic (my house is a bungalow) and are bolted to the ceiling trusses.

Actually it's something we are strongly considering taking down. It's kind of ugly and is truely turning into a catch all for things that could just as easily be stored up in the attic (or realistically should be thrown out). I'm thinking of a pull down ladder for attic access.

Welcome! Thanks for the shout-out. Definitely start up a thread in the Gallery when you get started. Make sure to document your progress as everyone enjoys following the journey and for yourself its awesome to see how far you have come.

As for the shelf if it doesn't work for your plan scrape it! I did the same in my current garage.

I would also try and shorten up those stairs and get the recycling boxes up on the wall and out of the way. Since you have two and the same garbage can as i do you could use the same approach i did. Check my thread, cheap hangers from Home Depot will help you a bunch.

Urban: i totally understand about the upper loft area. wrong size, wrong place and your plan is better sounds like it needs to go. i wouldn't remove it until i'm ready to put the stairway in or new shelving in so all that stuff you are deciding on doesn't have to sit on the floor.

good luck and do you have any questions so far about the forum? or you enjoying the reading and privileges of membership that lets you ask questions or let us pick your brain?

Actually we really don't care for Canadians much around here.....unless they are into their cars, tools and garage or shop.....then those ones are ok
