Sounds like shipping damage or defect. Take it back, it will go together much quicker the second time around.
Hey, just got done putting the new one together. It went together like a breeze. I am so happy with the second one and it is in perfect condition. :D

Did they exchange the bad one without any grief??
Hahah they sure did! The manager was super nice and even used the right equipment this time, unlike last time the other person just threw it onto the cart. He used like a lift of some sort to place it on. Worked great! Very happy. I picked up some grommets too and put them in the holes on the side. Thanks

Funny how just adding the grommets... stopped a lot of the rattle noise when moving it.

I've had a lot of trouble getting the grommets in, granted it's also like 0' in the garage right now.
I had the same issue, so I used a heat gun personally and worked great. Softened it up till it was flexible, then with some elbow grease it went flush in.

Anyone know if the snap on hinges are still available for the 5 drawer? Just put mine together but would like to swap out the lid struts with the hinges.
When I click "add to cart" it just says it is redirecting me to the snapon online catalog but then I can't find it.

Part # KRBC8T9

Is that Snap on part number for a pair, or a single folding hinge?

I was wondering that too but from reading through this thread I believe it is for a pair as people were saying this upgrade to the hinges was only a $10 upgrade. Unless the hinges used to be only $5 a piece.

Cool, just called snap-on 877-762-7664 and the guy over the phone was able to order it for me. Came out to $11.** with free shipping and said it did come with 2 hinges (set). Very friendly guy and said he is going to work on getting the site fixed so it can be ordered online. He did say it was backordered about 3 business days so it may take about a week to get out to me which is fine.

You get 2 hinges... they are not the same. One has a safety clasp that has to be lifted to close the lid... Price sounds about right... something like $10 for the SET.

The link to Snapon Hinges

WHen using this link I clicked add to cart and it redirects me to the snap-on online catalog but doesn't show the item in the cart. Thank you tho!

Nice! This link seems to work. I wonder why when searching the item number from the snap-on online catalog it can't find it.

Earlier posts indicate that doesn't last long. I was thinking about JB Weld, really hesitant about screwing them on.

3M automotive trim tape, double sided. If the stuff can keep car molding attached through speeds of 70mph+ with rain, snow, salt, sun and go through car washes, I don't think it's going to have a problem attaching a magnet to the lid of a tool box.

My magnetic rail has been attached for more than 2 years with zero problems.

I used the 3m trim tape. 3/4 of it worked perfectly but one side of one magnetic bar started to sag after 2 months. My only explaination is the 20 wrenches hanging on them. Ended up popping in some rivets with clips...

My guess is... if I kept the lid open most of the time... it would have worked. Gravity did me in by pulling at the tape away from the lid while it was closed. :dunno:

Anyway to prevent the tools from magnetizing? I highly doubt it but am curious to others' thoughts.

Wow, a jack and jack stands? Glad to see its holding up. What brand? You said non-HF

The frames are stamped albion ind. and the wheels are cheng shin. They are obiviously chinese (maybe from HF?) I canno be sure as I acquired them from a dumpster. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

If your going to do it, I reccomend reinforcing with more than just one peice of angle. Whether it be two peices spanning the cart or building a sub frame. I plan on adding a second peice of angle when it warms up because I have a slight flex when rolling over large obstacles. Its not enough to be worried about but its just one of those hings that bothers me.

EDIT: I only have one peice of angle on the swivel casters and no support on the fixed casters. The fixed caster dont seem to flex at all and are just directly bolted to the tray

Interesting. Didn't plan on it but will keep it in mind. I want to add some flat stock though under the casters on my red 5 drawer. I saw a little flex when going to push down on the lock for the swivels.

has not been much of a problem with the wrenches. Screwdrivers in the past have gotten magnetized but not my wrenches. The bars themselves do attract metal filings and I simply run a rare earth magnet I put in the finger of a rubber glove over them and it vacuums all the bits to the glove surface. I pull the glove inside out and toss it away. Kinda like a magnet condom.

I took some 1/4" thick angle iron, welded them back to back and bolted the casters directly to it. There is very little flex.....

Been thinking about the top. Most suggestions are to use a rubber mat or truck bed liner. Has anyone thought of using that high-build clear epoxy they use on bar tops?

Interesting thought. I'd imagine it would scratch easily.

There's enough flex in the lid that the epoxy would crack and crumble off in sections. That's a two-part epoxy that cures to a hard surface. You would need something for the top of the lid that can handle flex and shock from dropping things on it.
