Tedsters: nice haul on those vises and didn't you already post those or did you pick up another batch? BTW doesn't a Parker 106 have 6 inch jaws? you said 5 inch and i'm not a Parker expert, but i thought that they have the last # on their vises as jaw width size.

how's the shoulder? don't pick up any of those big vises for another month or so.

drives
my shoulder is doing good i am not gonna pick anything up with that arm or nothing that heavy with my other one right now, DID I ALREADY POST THEM

Picked up this free Record No. 3 today on a follow up from a Craigslist ad for a free Horizontal mill, which I started a thread for over in the vintage tool section. A few scratches on top but looks mostly unused!

You've done exceedingly well there. That's practically mint under that surface rust, and it's one of the proper Record vices. Once that's cleaned up, oiled & greased, that'll outlast you.

I can imagine a few Canuck's being a bit green of your luck with that one. :D

I bought a Parker 973 last fall and cleaned it up with a wire wheel, greased it and painted it and put it back together.

Nicely done. :)

My only complaint is that whoever had it before has worn off parts of the jaws, so it's not flush all the way across the face. Any ideas on what might be the best way to "true" them up.

Are they actually causing you any problems during use? I'd honestly leave them be, unless they are. They don't seem anywhere near bad enough to be anything other than a possible minor aesthetic irk.

Just me or does that seem a little top heavy?

Looks to me like the base from one of those round cafe tables, don't recall those being particularly stable with a cup of coffee sitting on them let alone a 200lb vise. :-/

I'm surprised there aren't lumps missing from the vise where it's hit the deck a few times.....

And I thought I had a Prentiss that had a US Navy logo anchor on it :(
It did have about three coats of gray paint on it.

Can fair hear my old English teacher admonishing, in my head, over the use of the word 'and' at the start of a sentence. :D

What was the logo, once you got the paint stripped off?

Edit: How's retirement suiting you btw Get'?

It was an anchor stamped in the top rear of the housing on a #19 swivel jaw. It didn't have the "Anchor Line" like the one Oldie posted the link to.
I seem to be busy with little things around the house I have put off in the past. I thought I would have time to do stuff I wanted to do but other things seem to come up. I do like not having to set alarm clock and having to think about what day it is ?
I think my next two projects will be in your color of red. They are both Parkers,
one is an oval slide #34 And the other is a #63 1/2

Got it. Spoke to the seller today. They said they had another vise as well. :) Regarding the one I bought, opens 4" with 3.5" jaws. Looking forward to calling them tonight to see what else they have.

After seeing all the really nice vises you guys have found I feel somewhat inadequate with my little Sears vise.

Here are my latest pics of the Fisher Chain vise mounted on my bench. I have also uploaded a short video of it opening and closing. Two things I learned. First it is really big, second, it is really cool! No comments about my shop, it is a disaster but it is soooo cold outside.

I like the Emmert...

Keep it...

OldH, here's the deal. My shop is wet and unheated. If I put it outside it will rust up good, regardless of how I prepare it. Lots of bare metal on that one.

It is not a vise I'd use myself. Lastly my wife told me to get it 'Off the damned counter' where it has been for 4 months.:headscrat

I have a lot more stuff I want to buy and I don't have unlimited funds with three in college. Hell I haven't even told my wife about the chain vise yet! I have run across two more of these since I got this one. I'm sure we will cross paths again.

And ....................... I still think that other one in PA looks like a Platypus. :lol_hitti
I can't wait for it to get an identity and to see more details on it.

I assumed you were talking about keeping it as your Avatar...

Those are worth a large chunk of beans...

I'd sell it, too, but keep the Avatar...I'm keeping the 5198 that was made for me...

It's really cold here today...down to about 48...

Thrump,---Just tell him to slap it on a pallet and send it.---AT $100.00, you can afford a little shipping.---U-ship will pick it up at his door.

Looks like pickup only, no ship. EDIT:confirmed. So, someone in Ontario with snowtires used to white knuckle driving should HOP! :locked:

Dad isn't sure if they broke or just parts but going to look for the rest for sure.

only 748 miles, 12 hours, for me!! You know I'd go, BUT I ain't driving into -50 degree weather for a vise. If this were summer I'd already be in the car on my way up!

4-hour drive for me, but I think I'll pass. Shame, it's probably going to be sold for scrap in a week or two.
