the parker is a fixed base not swivel, 974=4 975=5 swivels
they made a bunch of different No. on the fixed base i still haven't figured them out yet
79X 254X 106 102 kind of different

You've done exceedingly well there. That's practically mint under that surface rust, and it's one of the proper Record vices. Once that's cleaned up, oiled & greased, that'll outlast you.

I can imagine a few Canuck's being a bit green of your luck with that one. :D

My only complaint is that whoever had it before has worn off parts of the jaws, so it's not flush all the way across the face. Any ideas on what might be the best way to "true" them up.

Are they actually causing you any problems during use? I'd honestly leave them be, unless they are. They don't seem anywhere near bad enough to be anything other than a possible minor aesthetic irk.

Looks to me like the base from one of those round cafe tables, don't recall those being particularly stable with a cup of coffee sitting on them let alone a 200lb vise. :-/

I'm surprised there aren't lumps missing from the vise where it's hit the deck a few times.....

It was an anchor stamped in the top rear of the housing on a #19 swivel jaw. It didn't have the "Anchor Line" like the one Oldie posted the link to.
I seem to be busy with little things around the house I have put off in the past. I thought I would have time to do stuff I wanted to do but other things seem to come up. I do like not having to set alarm clock and having to think about what day it is ?
I think my next two projects will be in your color of red. They are both Parkers,
one is an oval slide #34 And the other is a #63 1/2

Got it. Spoke to the seller today. They said they had another vise as well. :) Regarding the one I bought, opens 4" with 3.5" jaws. Looking forward to calling them tonight to see what else they have.

After seeing all the really nice vises you guys have found I feel somewhat inadequate with my little Sears vise.

Here are my latest pics of the Fisher Chain vise mounted on my bench. I have also uploaded a short video of it opening and closing. Two things I learned. First it is really big, second, it is really cool! No comments about my shop, it is a disaster but it is soooo cold outside.

OldH, here's the deal. My shop is wet and unheated. If I put it outside it will rust up good, regardless of how I prepare it. Lots of bare metal on that one. :mad:

It is not a vise I'd use myself. Lastly my wife told me to get it 'Off the damned counter' where it has been for 4 months.:headscrat

I have a lot more stuff I want to buy and I don't have unlimited funds with three in college. Hell I haven't even told my wife about the chain vise yet! I have run across two more of these since I got this one. I'm sure we will cross paths again.

I assumed you were talking about keeping it as your Avatar...

Those are worth a large chunk of beans...

I'd sell it, too, but keep the Avatar...I'm keeping the 5198 that was made for me...

It's really cold here today...down to about 48...

Well, that is a 36 hour nonstop round trip in arctic conditions ...... :eyecrazy::3gears::3gears::3gears:

Which i would actually consider in the summer

Found these parts laying around in the back 40 at the shop today. Going to look for the rest of the wilton. I think thats what it is. The other not sure about.

Dad isn't sure if they broke or just parts but going to look for the rest for sure.

4-hour drive for me, but I think I'll pass. Shame, it's probably going to be sold for scrap in a week or two.
