OP, sorry if I missed the answer already, how slippery is the floor with water/liquid on the ground.

Also, have you ever spilled brake fluid/oil/gear oil/etc on the floor...did you clean up right away, or was there a spill you may have missed and how did it hold up against the product?

I know you said you've had no issues, even with hot tire pick up?

Gathering data to do a 700 sq ft garage this spring. Garage is very well done, and I appreciate your taste in cars. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Here is my dad's track/autocross toy :)

Beautiful garage. I know there were several requests about the source of the Porsche lettering on the wall. Could you let us know more about that?

Thank you.
I PM'd the details to a few members a while back. I'll send the info to you ASAP.

I have read this thread completely several times over the last year. Amazing job on this garage restoration.

Many thanks for the feedback

Thank you. That's a great looking car.
Your timing is very good. I'm in the process of writing up some posts on recent work on the Cayenne.
I just completed the following in the garage:
Coilover installation
Rotors and pads replaced
Secondary Cat Bypass install
Power steering fluid flush
Coolant system repair and flush

So The floor has seen a lot of heavier duty usage lately, beyond the typical detailing use.

The floor stood up to the abuse very well. I did a lot of fine tuning and it felt like I jacked up the car 100 times, so there was a lot dragging the jack and jack stands around. The paint is very tough and handles mechanical wear very well.

There were definitely a few spills, but I didn't let them sit too long (just out of habit :))

The floor is not what I would consider slippery when wet. Its not like having stone grit in the paint, but its also not like your typical paint that makes you tread carefully.

Now 2 years since doing the garage. Still zero hint of hot tire pickup and looking as good as day 1. I'll be posting some updated pics soon.

A few quick pics of the KEF speaker install:
I have the sub hidden in the left corner behind the cabinet.
After several hours of tweaking (very difficult to perfect the sound setup in a garage) it is sounding really good. I'm using a Denon AVRX3000 connected to a GB Ethernet network being fed straight from my iTunes library.

Thanks Guys - nice to hear from you again :)

A few more pics, including some of the floor for those who were asking how it is holding up after 2 years. Just finished cleaning it, so it's still wet in places :)

Wow so clean and beautiful! I have a Denon X2000 and love it. That is such a clean and modern speaker install. Good to see updates from you.

Thanks Chad. I started with an Onkyo TX SR 707 many years ago, which is still in use, but I prefer the Denon receivers. I also have a Denon AVR991 which I've used for several years and I really like the built in airplay support which is very stable on these particular Denon models. Particularly as I like everything to be as out of sight as possible, being able to control everything from your iPhone or iPad is great.

I use several quad core Mac Mini's as media servers, and the combination of the Denon receivers with the Mac Mini's provides excellent stability, great control, good power management and superb sound.

Love the look of those, truly exceptional and like everything else they fall into the theme perfectly.

Hey man, really love the garage and the work that you've put in. I know it's been awhile since you initially put it down but I saw your comment about the fumes back at the beginning of the thread. If you can recall, how long did it take for the fumes to dissipate? I have a pregnant wife whose extremely sensitive to smells right now. Also, were the fumes bad enough to be a nuisance to your neighbors when you were applying the coating? Thanks in advance for the response.

Thanks.
The fumes were very strong on the day of application and in close proximity, but dissipated pretty quickly over the next day or two. You'd just want to be sure you have a well insulated door between the garage and house and keep it closed for 2 days.

My neighbors arent very close by, but I don't think it is something that would have been a problem, even if they were.

Quick question about your Cayenne S. I've got a 2006 Cayenne S, (which I've had for less than a year,) and give the not-so-great roads we have around here (NYC area), it's a bit harsh riding. I've got it up for sale now for this reason. I've also got an 2002 X5, and that is quite a bit more comfortable. Now I don't have the optional air suspension in the Cayenne, just wondering if you had that option, and what your thoughts are on that. Perhaps I just missed the boat by not getting a Cayenne S with air suspension.

Also, I've kept the stock 18" wheels on the Cayenne; when I got it my first thoughts were to get 20" wheels, but with the rough ride, I bought a second set of 18" wheels for the snows. I can't even imagine how rough the ride would be with 20"s. Yet my X5 is fine with 20's.

Interesting. I don't have the air suspension and I had the stock wheels and found it to be a little too soft. As a comparison point I did have a BMW X6 with active suspension and would say that it had a firmer but very good ride quality.

I then upgraded to the 21" GTS wheels on the Cayenne and immediately the handling improved, but the bumps were more noticable, but still very comfortable. That is why I didn't hesitate to lower the suspension recently with the FA coilovers.

Have you had a chance to inspect your suspension, and have you had the upper control arms replaced? It sounds like there may be an issue somewhere. based on what I see on the Cayenne forums your issue is not normal or what you should expect.

Very nice garage and color scheme. What is the color code/name for that red paint you used?

Thanks.
The paint code is PFC-03 Red Barron
Beher Porch and Floor Paint (which I chose for it's water resistance when needing to wipe down)

Ok please tell me that 3rd spot is reserved for a 911 right?? You have great taste so I can only imagine the beautiful version you would choose.

Nah, he's eyeing up a 959.

I'd like to think that a 911 is on the horizon somewhere...in fact that was the plan about 18months back - then came the Cayenne and many other distractions.

I think 2015 will bring some kind of change...

EMC2, I stumbled across this thread while researching Rust Bullet. First let me say your garage is beautiful. Very well done.

I am in a similar situation as you were. My garage floor was painted by some previous owner who knows how many years ago. It's gray and shows several spots where it has lifted, but the majority of it is still in-tact. It looks identical to your 'before' photo. My problem is I've already begun starting to install wall hung cabinets in the shop, and now that it's looking very nice, I feel the floor needs some love. I guess you could call it an afterthought. Anyways, what I like about Rust Bullet is it APPEARS that you can lay it right over existing paint as long as it's properly cleaned. This is ideal for me as I can't get under the cabinets with a grinder and I'm not interested in taking the cabs down as they're already stocked with stuff.

I'm going to do a bit more research on Rust Bullet, but so far, it looks like it may be the ticket for me. Thanks for your review.

Glad to hear the Rust Bullet is holding up to the abuse of jack + jack stands. After seeing this I'm very tempted to throw a few coats on my garage floor. At only a few hundred bucks it seems almost like a no brainer if it can hold up to the abuse. Much better than my paint splattered and abused 70yo concrete slab that's there now.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this product :3gears:

Thanks Hoologan. Being seriously risk averse, I would suggest getting as much paint off as possible with paint stripper (no need to grind in my experience). My only concern is how to clean everything off thoroughly enough before painting (without removing your cabinets). I spent several hours with a pressure washer to get all the stripped/weakened paint off, and that is a messy task. It is also why I decided to paint the floor first and then the walls.

I do believe the rust bullet will work over existing paint (correctly prepped), but it will probably only be as strong as the paint it is applied over. I would therefore not trust this approach in areas that will be exposed to hot tires. Under the cabinets or in low traffic areas it would probably not be a problem. Let us know what you decide to go with. :)

Thanks Colin. It definitely is an attractively priced option considering it is an industrial strength product. I know I've said it before but I would definitely choose the same product again, and again, and again...

I finally added a 911 to the family. (I found a great, well optioned '09, 997.2 Carrera PDK)

Completed the full BlackFire detailing treatment
1. Clay
2. SRC Compound
3. Gloss Enhancing Polish
4. Wet Diamond Sealer
5. Midnight Sun Carnauba
6. Crystal Seal
7. Sleep very well

Wheels (being painted black with polished lip) and spacers will be done this week. Followed by TechArt springs with new Bilstein B6's, and Sharkwerks center bypass hopefully done by end of next week.

A few pics in the interim as right now driving is high on the agenda :burnout:

Absolutely loving the car, and the garage now feels complete...until the next project comes along:eyecrazy:

Ah, the set is complete! If I had a stable of cars like that, I'd have to quit my job just to make time to keep them clean. Congrats. I guess all that's left is 3 recessed lifts.

Did you, by chance, snap any pics during the detailing process?

Thanks Rick. I wish I had taken some pics during the process, as the paint was not in the best shape. I was however in too much of a hurry to get driving. :3gears:

1 scissor lift is definitely something I want to look into. I have the 911 up on 4 jack stands right now as the wheels go off to get painted tomorrow. I don't mind using jack stands when working on certain things, but when you need the whole car in the air, the lift is much more reassuring and convenient.

Nice!! Congrats and enjoy the new baby!

Thanks Chenthu

Thank you for FINALLY appeasing your audience. :) That really looks like a full Porsche family garage now.

Thanks Dubber - hope you are doing well and keeping up that great detailing regimen.

Added the spacers today (5mm front and 8mm rear), and got back the repainted wheels.
Now just need to do the springs/shocks, and bypass. The wheels came out amazing.

If anyone in the Atlanta area ever needs someone for wheels feel free to PM me and I'll pass over the contact details.

I'm also searching for the right 997.2 - how/where did you find it?

Love the black wheel centers.

Thanks Rockam. Basically, it took a LOT of online searching. I eventually found a local private seller on AutoTrader, who was a great guy just looking to move on to his next car, and was very reasonable.

I really wanted to find a local car, because I prefer to have a good amount of time to look it over (at least 2 good test drives), get the PPI done and speak directly to the Porsche dealer about items I'd like taken care of under the warranty.

VERY NICE!

Know you will enjoy the 997.

Going to research the Blackfire detail products. Seems you are pleased with the results.

Garage is looking beautiful too!

Best,
