Just rewired a good size building. There are 21 meters there, I am at the point where I'd like to test my mini splits. My problem is I'm not getting juice from a few of the meters. How do the power companies turn the meters on and off? Just not sure where to get them. Putting all the meters in my name but it takes a couple days and I 4 crews coming, if dont get electric, by tomorrow morning, its bad.

Its the analog turning disk type.

Ill assume these meter were lockout from previously problem tenants but nobody turn them back on. So, what I do while I wait? How can i restore the electric without waiting for them.

We took off the locks awhile ago too attach the feeds to the meters, I wasnt around for that.

Any idea?

generally speaking the poco will pull a disconnect on the line side of the meter and then lock it out so that you can't re energize without committing a crime. some pocos have smart meters that can be turned on remotely. you need to have a conversation with the poco because you ain't getting anything without them unless you want to risk a trip to the gray bar hotel. if you need power that bad run some generators until you can get it straightened out.

Many of the analog meters have a simple switch on the back. Cut the tag, flip the switch, plug it back in... and let them know what you did and why.

I did read it, he doesn't say if he tested the top of the meter bank or not. That's why I would think they just put the plastic tabs on the back of the meters, otherwise just follow the feed wire back

I think the type Mustang is talking about are the same ones they use here.
They are little condom type things that slip over the blades on the meter.

I was more referring to jasons comment about disconnects on line sides of meters and smart meters...

Do any of the meters appear installed at an angle? The meter can be put back in the ring with the connections out by putting it in at a funny angle.

here and in denver both the meter switch and the plastic tab thing don't fly. there is a physical disconnect located in the meter pack to prevent these very things.

In some areas, the POCO will allow licensed electricians to remove the meter and install "jumpers" for testing. Of course that assume there is power to the inlet side of the meter.
