Cretedog If by well you mean excessive and over the top in the most insanely awesome way then yes he did very well.

Joe you sorta got trumped by Crete but it doesn't change the fact that your cart is awesome in its own right and so are those vises. I really hope I can find a nice little combo vise like that Ridgid when my welding table takes shape.

Thanks and yea got them figured out, I have several grinding wheels all set for the different sizes, my biggest problem is getting the dimensions from the owner of the vise, I first make the fits about .010 smaller and have the vise owner fit the jaws and they must measure the gaps with feeler gages when the vise is lightly closed. The first important adjustment is the parallelism of the jaw faces, The Parkers are pretty loose so if the faces are within .010 the closing pressure will align them parallel, the rest is pretty much hitting the numbers. Some times I can finish with one mailing/fitting but most of the time I need a couple mailings.

Have you given any thought to having the owners make a cast of their dynamic and static halves faces (without the jaw faces installed) and then just ship the casts?

It might be too complicated, but something like a silicone mold kit might save on some expensive shipping.

My Blacksmith Partner just finished up the 'stand' for his Hollands 18 and newer Morgan. Top is 5' x 10' x 1-1/4". Frame is heavy 4" I beam. Legs 1/2" wall x 5" tube. Feet 1-1/2" plate. I'd say he did well...

Wow, serious welding table envy over here. The bolt bushings are a very nice touch.

Here we go again, round two. Grab some pop corn and watch the madness at the end of this auction.

Any bets on what the final silly price will be?

My girlfriend scored this for me as a surprise from a flea market! 10$!!! Can't wait to eventually restore it.

It's a 643 ½ .... good condition overall, jaws are decent.

TP: nice to hear you have a good picking partner and teach him to call 911 in case you find that lifting that 200 pound vise you are going to find causes you to drop to the ground.

seriously great that your grandson can go with you because i still remember sitting on my gramps lap in his D9 when he was cutting logging roads 50 years ago. BTW is the ratchet an old Craftsman??

Crete: i love your posts. few and awesome. can you ask your friend what is under the stainless top or is that a 1.5 or 2 inch piece of steel shined up? also how did it get the rubber horse mat material to stick on the bottom of those awesome feet pads he made? i'm building a couple small all steel welding tables in case you want to check out that thread and lend me some of your wisdom. link is in my signature.

I thought my quest for a wilton was over yesterday when I found this at an estate sale, but it wasn't for sale.

Hey McBrownie, I do not know the answer on that suggestion, seems I would have the same issue working with customers. The problem is that the cut out that was done at the Parker manufacturing company is not parallel to the rest of the vise and even with a casting the jaw faces would not be parallel or show the different height issues. Here is some pic's from a customer that new what I needed. This fitting only took two jaw shipping, the vise was never shipped to me.

Drivesitfar- Thank you. His top is just a sheet of 1-1/4" carbon steel plate. He took a flap wheel to the edge to get out the deeper torch marks, but didn't turn it into a mirror as this will be a 'using bench' and the edges are going to get nicked up. The silver you see came out of a spray can- he masked off the top and bottom and gave the edges and angle iron on the end a shot. The stall mat is glued on with some squiggles of black 3M weatherstrip cement. I have also used 3M spray glue on both surfaces- but that can be less forgiving in some ways.

I look forward to checking out your links this weekend.

Both ratchets are Craftsman and both are patent pending. The smaller one is a "BE" series . It's a little dirty but in perfect condition. Never used as a hammer amazingly with it being from the 30's. The other is a patent pending
-V- series 44984 patent pending. The best I could find about it was the patent was given in 1959. It looks brand new.
The vise is a No. 63 American Scale Red Seal. It's minty. I paid 225.00 for every thing so I think I didn't get hurt to bad.

I have been searching on CL for the last two yrs for a Wilton bullet bench vise at a right price but nothing yet. I'm about to give up and get a Wilton All-Terrain vise.
I thought my quest for a wilton was over yesterday when I found this at an estate sale, but it wasn't for sale.

Trey: PM me with the right price and i'll see if i have one to ship you that you can spiff up. of course if you have preferences please include them, but i'm thinking of thinning the heard a bit by either spiffing them up or letting other members do so. i think GJ members might have a dozen or two of my once priced possessions. and I've got a few of theirs too. swivel or not and size could get us started.

TP: awesome deal because they are all quality and would be happy in many of our toolboxes and benches.

This German made Leinen vise is for sale. Guy wants $55. I can't find much information about Leinen. Anybody have any information about how old and how good this is? Good Price? Thanks!

They're both in the same price range of the only other recent Reed tin sign I can find, can't find the link....
Here's an earlier one From 2008
http://www.legendaryauctions.com/mobile/lotdetail.aspx?inventoryid=84037

The ebay one can be zoomed in to see the wear damage..... And I can't find repros of this sign anywhere on the net. Posted because it's breaking the budget. :) the auction appears to be 23% commmission, and as usual, caveat emptor.

I don't have any info on hand, but yes that's THE Sears.
Some of the tools that Sears sold had the Sears' name rather than Craftsman or one of the other labels they used. Usually these were less expensive tools (and lesser quality) than the ones built for the Craftsman label. Some may have been imports as well. I'd say that $10 is a good price for it.
