BC, Mcmaster and the like actually sell clamp feet as a repair item for the larger clamps. I'd bet they get small enough for the clamp on the Wilton, but if you despair, my offer still stands...
Thanks outlaw. I'll have to look up my McMaster book at work and see what they have. I was going the clamp route because they are so plentiful and wouldn't cost me a thing.
As for selling, I would have to politely decline but I think you already knew that

6-46 is a very popular month for Wilton, I have two with the same date. Just seen a 5-45 date on a 4-1/2 machinist. Has anyone figured out the first month they were built. Drives started a thread on the date codes.
BC, I could fix your clamp if you need help.

Kevin: that Wilton date stamp thread is still looking for more date stamps so we can keep gathering data. i haven't set up an Excel sheet and anybody that wishes to may if the know how and have time.
i think there haven't been any dates earlier than 1945 and not EXP Guar dates later than 1970 (maybe latest one is more like 1965 and just can't recall).
BC: i like the idea of using your new Wilton as a cigar holder.

Not enough data. There are 45 vices I've gotten, 3 without dates, 3 gaps of 5 or more years that matter.
The earliest date is 4/45. since they started production at least by 1941 (that is the incorporation year) that's one gap that supports that the dates were the expiration date from the start... (there are three vises clearly early models, that have no dates...)
Leaving the Cadets out of the picture for dates (they had a 3 year Gaur.) there is a 7 year date gap that cannot be explained.
Regular Wilton';s had "Exp" or a variant from 60 -62. For Cadet's there are examples from 55-66.
Personally I still think the dates were expired dates from the get go, but nothing yet to confirm it...

ps: KM; you mentioned 2 vises from 46 that I don't have. so if you, and a couple of other people that have a lot of Wilton's would add your vise dates, that would help. also what can help is:
Whether it is also stamped "exp" or Caur Exp"
Model No.
Patent Pending or not...
Chicago or Schiller Park...
jaw width (for grins this can sometimes help for model No...)

Concerning dates on Wilton's, I have a patent pending bullet that has no date. Was this normal or has the key been replaced?

Based on what the spreadsheets says, this is true. Only one had just "EXP" on it. Drives posted a '62 Schiller Park C1.

As I believe that may help track some of the nuances of production (For example, we already know many Baby Bullets were marked "Chicago" with what are clearly Schiller Park era dates..)

Nope. Thanks to Irwin, Record is nothing more than a now worthless name stamped on import tat, these days. The current stuff doesn't hold a candle to the old Sheffield produced stuff.
Got another England vise (made in England) got some other USA made vises never thought 2 cents on the England models.
Wished I would have bought all of them at the time, they were on closeout and no one wanted them (shelf full of them). Thinking like $40 and up, now I feel really dumb for not loading a cart full.

It's the age old scenario of hindsight would be a wonderful thing. Most of us would likely be comfortably wealthy now if we had it.

A friend of mine bought this for me at a sale I couldn't get to this week . I think he paid a bit much for it but he has came through before and bought it from him anyway so he would keep them coming. I think these sometime cost more because the "WILTON" name stands out so large .

Oh yeah.. early 1900's. Iron wood handles. Maker is H.D. Smith & Co. Dubbed " The Perfect Handle ". I have several wrench's but no butterfly screw drivers like this.

Took a few pictures of the old Parkinson wood vice before I put it away for a while so I can have some space to work on some of the others. It's interesting that they have a cast frame rather than rods for it to run on, you've restored one of these haven't you Fretters?
By the way does anyone know anything about Rededa wood working vices?

Both have jaws that are 4" (100mm) wide, so why where there two models?

I'm not familiar with the number mapping but Record had multiple levels of vices, with some at the extreme duty use level...

Turning one out on the Southbend won't be a problem but I'm not sure how it's attached to the threaded post. It looks like something was torn off when it broke
Are they fixed or do they have a ball and socket joint that allows for irregular clamping surfaces?

Ball and socket. I think the ones sold by Mcmaster have a wire spring lock in them, so they snap on. I know buying one will probably put you upside down on this vise, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do......
