Hey guys, thought it time to mix things up a bit in the vintage section. How about a thread for the occasional, often quick, random type questions that may not warrant their own threads? Or for just general random discussion on any vintage tool topic. Discussion might be one or two posts long or might be 10 pages on any item. We could have fun with it. Ask and comment away! No rules here, but a place to hang out! :willy_nil

I got one to kick this thing off. I got a Martin ratchet a while back, my first and only Martin tool. Anyone know who made Martin ratchets or other tools for Martin? Did they make them all themselves? And, how special might Martin tools be? Seem pretty rare. thx! - Paul

Somebody has to know about Martin Tools !

Ok. Little known fact Paul that I bet barely anyone knows about Martin Tools.

I saw locally a small tool stamping die from JH Williams with the Williams curved logo that probably was used on wrenches. Guess who the maker was? Stamped on another side of the die was Martin, in their fancy cursive script that appears on their own wrenches.

I was quite intrigued.

I agree with 3bay on this. There was an Amazon hot deal with 8" adjustable wrenches for around $3.00 a while back. I picked up a few. Seem decent. And gathered a couple of GJ links while researching them. This probably doesn't help with your vintage ratchet but maybe someone from these other threads will chime in.

I meant it's a little known fact that Martin made the die for Williams. But I suppose most never heard of Martin period.

Some more common Martin brand items are the single end service wrenches and the angle wrenches.

I have some Martin tools somewhere...I have never heard of the Williams connection, seems I recall Fairmount tool out of Cleveland made the Martin tools.

Working on a new story but because it is not vintage in nature I will need to post it in the other tool section you guys good with that????

Thanks for the random discussion so far ! I will read up on the links above. I'll post a picture of it later on when I get to it - in the middle of too much right now. We will need to decipher who made it for Martin! Martin in general appears to be more rare to me than almost any other US maker I've run across so far!

Feel free guys to ask or discuss anything on this thread. Thinking of it like maybe a Cheers bar or something. I often have one or two questions about vintage stuff not really worthy of its own thread. Could be good for that sort of thing. - Paul
