I'm considering either the Proto PT-1300/1310 pair or the Gearwrench 82106 set.

Both are about the same length and I can get them for about the same price. I'm leaning toward the Proto as they are USA and I have other Proto items that I really like. The upside to the Gearwrench is the double joint. Never had any with the double X feature. Is it worth going with Gearwrench or take the single joint Proto?

Get the USA ones, the teeth match and there is a difference. Got the Snap-On storks not sure what they call them today. One can remove metal splinters from their hands, along with their other pliers ect...

Faced the same decision a few weeks ago and went with the Proto set. Very happy with them. To me the better leverage & USA outweighed the minor access advantage of the double x types.

Are those X joints the same as the irwin (I think that's the brand I saw). I wouldn't bother with the gearwrench if they're a rebrand which they might be. Also X would be bad if clearance is an issue (I think, don't know).

If you're going to use them that much might as well get the best pair you can get but I wouldn't bypass other brand offerings if the warranty is going to be mail in. Channellock maybe. Depends on the design you want. Proto ain't bad but you might be able to do US made a little cheaper.

I have both sets. As pliers, the Protos are much nicer. As limited access goes, I have actually had to use the double x once that the Protos (or my Kleins that are the same designs) could not get into.

When I first got them both the Protos and (mine are crescent I think) double X are very stiff. Tri Flow and a lot of working got them much smoother. Since you have two hinges on the double X you need twice the effort to make them usable.

I have the Napa compound ones, and a few pair of Mac and Snap on, in the standard configuration.

Pretty sure the Napa is made by GearWrench, and those Proto ones look just like my Mac ones.
The Mac is my favorite, but the NAPA has come in handy too.

Twin joint units aside, I recently bought some Astro ones and wasn't expecting much if any quality. But I'll be damned if they aren't very decent, I was most impressed. I think I paid $25 from Woot for a Str, 45 and 90 set of 10" ones.

The ones on eBay are not idential to that pic when it comes to grips. The eBay ones are green and orange grips.

Yeah, I do. The joints are nice and tight, the handles are comfortable and the teeth grip well. To be honest, I picked these over the blackhawks because I liked the red handles better.
