Finally got the cases split from my 1975 Yamaha MX400b, lots of patience and penetrating oil, a little heat and a big *** dead blow hammer. It had been siting up for a number of years.

Last weekend I adjusted the valves on my 1978 Tecumseh snowblower 10 hp engine. The exhaust valve was at .008" and should have been .012". It ran a bit better at least the muffler wasn't getting red. It was still running a bit off. I have a cheap Chinese carb. At least it was only $30.00.

This weekend I rebuilt my old Techumseh carb. Pulled the POS Chinese replacement. Installed the rebuilt and fired her up. Runs like a charm. No more hunting/surging and back firing.

Its been a rough winter for Old Betsy.

Plastidipped the gauges protector on my GSw today. The factory headlight protector shines glare through it. Looks pretty good too!

Spread cat litter over and wiped down shelves where a bottle of oil leaked. Grrrr

Checked fluid in Ram & cleaned it out a bit since it will be borrowed next weekend to pick up a FIRST Robotics team from France at the airport when they arrive for Montreal competition.

Spent the day cleaning and organizing the garage. I could still spend a couple of more hours of organizing and still not be content. I really need to get doors put on the shelving to help give the shop a cleaner look.

I gutted the exhaust back pressure valve on my 7.3 powerstroke due to a bad oil leak. Inspected and cleaned up the turbo pedestal, turbo, and intake h-pipe. Slapped it all back together and hear my truck roar again

Hung up three LED shop lights that I bought at Costco. The difference between the LED and the old fluorescent bulbs is astonishing.

Which one's did you get? I've got a about ten 4' dual bulb fluorescents I'm thinking about replacing...

Cold is relative thing at this time of the year. It got up to the mid-30's today, so I changed the brakes on my wife's car. Felt balmy.

I left my garage for a bike ride.

Returned, washed that bike, washed a car, and polished half of the same car before surprise dad duties called me in.

I still need to clean the bike's chain and cassette, but that can wait until tomorrow, as can the cleanish but unpolished side of the grocery getter.

A few weeks ago I carted home a bale of straw to spread over the muddy spots in the back yard, so the dogs wouldn't track so much of the yard back into the house.

When I pulled it out of the back of my Clubman wagon, it shed straw bits all over the place - today it was finally nice enough out to get the shop vac out and clean up the mess.

While I had the garage doors open, I also "swept" out the garage floor with the leaf blower!

Not too awful much today bc I didnt get to bed until 5 am this morning. Tonight I shimmed a gib on the Bridgeport and cut down some lumber to repair our <cough!> bed frame. SWMBO bought a fancy new one a year or so ago, real wood but poorly designed support in the middle. I told her that had we bought an antique/vintage piece as I wanted it wouldnt be broken, she replied yea but youd be ******* in someone else's bed.

Installed a 1" level kit on the front of my F-150. Had issues with one of the upper ball joints and ended up changing the upper control arm.

Got two coats of sealer on my backsplash. Once it's all dry I'll be installing the power strip and screwing to the back of the workbench.

Milled out a couple of AR type rifle receivers... Both for 9mm AR rifles...

Before..

After..

Nice! What kind of mill do you have? I've got a couple 80%'ers that need some love. Just ordered a full parts kit from MidwayUSA to get me motivated!

I picked up & put away tools from a lingering project, pushed the mower from the garage into the workshop until the rest of my parts arrive for the engine rebuild, swept the floors, washed the truck, sprayed down the wife's car, re-jetted & replaced the carb on my quad, shuffled the stock camaro seats to the barn, hung a new fire extinguisher, tinkered with my CL edger purchase, and eyed places to hang speakers. I need to get my sound system situated out there. The clock radio just isn't cutting it.

Came back from a trip to southern Cal and my bride told me we had a water leak in the garage. Found the old hot water heater had developed a leak and had saturated the wood and sheetrock stand. Had to spend my saturday waiting on plumbers for estimates and finally installing the new unit. No work in the shop today.
I will never understand why people call them 'hot water heaters'.

It's redundant... if the water was already hot, then there wouldn't be a need to heat it.

I guess having someone realize that is just as futile as persuading them to implement they're and their correctly, not calling a pickup a 'car', or referring to an engine as a 'motor'.

I try to keep my OCD in check, but some things I just can't help.

Started upgrading my garage lighting using these fixtures from Menards. The first garage came out great with just 5 installed and is a ton brighter than the old 6 - 100w bulbs.

Stared at the empty space that used to be occupied by my cars. Lost my 64 Plymouth, 64 Olds 98 convertible(in the family for 46 yrs) and my camper in a fire at the winter storage facility.

Drywall is done-ish. I rearranged this stuff about 5 times. That was no fun. But i think i have to settle on this setup. Where the gladiators are it is is 68" from wall to bump out. Bump out is about 7 inches and then that wall is about 40"s. I wanted my coke machine to go on this wall, but looks like that wont happen, it sits out too far for my liking.. And on the far right there is also water hookup but not sure if i want/need it.

For easier cleanup in the future...(it will happen again, Murphy's Law) get an automotive drip pan from the parts store or Wal-Mart. I have one on a shelf where I store all my antifreeze, oil, brake fluid, grease, anything that could leak and make a sticky mess. I also use old baking pans and cookie sheets to store hyd. jacks on. If they don't leak they always seem to "seep" just enough to make a mess.

Finally bit the bullet and bought a Harbor Freight 44" yesterday. Clean up my garage from the winter **** that's been collecting and moved hazardous/sharp items from lower shelves to higher shelves now that my daughter is running around getting into everything.(She's 17mths) Next weekend I'll take the wheels off of the cabinet and mount it in the workbench I made two summers ago specifically for this cab!

Not inside the garage today, can't get a car in there, **** !

I tried to clean my daughter's 03 Grand Am headlight assembly's.

They're getting funky as most of these assembly's are. Only had about 1/2 hour to do it,

Used a most popular toothpaste, with whithening, starts with Cre and a generic window cleaner.

Had to really rub and work it in and rinse. It will need a couple of more sessions, but it will be a big improvement!!!

Started with a small area and went for it!

The test area was the right headlight, in the corner, then I went to the left lense not too bad for a first try !! It will come around!

If you really want to clean them up and keep it that way I recommend sanding and polishing. The final step is to seal the surface with a mixture of polyurethane and mineral spirits. I documented the process when I did the projector retrofit on my wife's Subaru Outback. Scroll down to post #9.

Moved a couple lateral file cabinets from my business to the shop. In the rain and, of course, got stuck. Fired up the tractor, broke the trailer jack, pulled truck out and will deal with the trailer when things dry out:shocking:

Broke Jake, my inherited snowblower, in half to find out why the drive wheels were chattering during the last snow. Just as I thought, the driven disk is about worn out. I suppose one every 20 years or so isn't bad. It is a wear item, afterall.

Swapped in the Wonderlich shifter for a friend:

Interesting item. Nicely made, with a frictionless roller on the shift lever. Might take some getting used to.

Thanks buhusted and Outlaw, I'm going to look into this.

I've done the sand/compound/polish thing. Mcguire's works pretty good, but after talking to an aircraft maintenance tech friend and a few body shop owners, I've learned you're best off not sanding or using any abrasive on a headlight lense. Once you remove the "hardcoat", you've killed the lense. It will require sanding/polishing for the rest of it's life. Pittman ALR is what you need. Wipe on, wipe off. Done. Not cheap, but it has worked on acrylic aircraft windows and landing lights for a darn long time.
