Anyone familiar with these units? A remodel we are doing is going use a mini-split system for cooling and heating. One estimate came in with using Trane brand units. All my experiences with these systems have been Mitsubishi.

Haven't found much info as to actual usage of them except for one 6 year old negative comment about them. Thanks.

at the Intn'l Builders Show and the ASHRAE show this year all of the unitary manuf are showing mini-splits. They are mostly Gree private label units, meaning they do not design, engineer or manuf their own product. Stick with the major Japanese brands, Mitsu, Fujitsu, Daikin. I hear that some of the unitary guys are developing their own lines but I wouldn't want to be the test bed for their new product.

agreed. We've had the best success with daikin. Mitsubishi a close second.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going ask the contractor to justify his reasons for wanting to use a Trane system. Most everything I've read suggests the ones you guys mentioned as being the best of the bunch.

I installed comfort aire, they were very affordable, worked good and out of about 80 units in a short amount of time not one service issue...

Some times the equipment came in at half price of other brands, I am never for installing the "cheap" units, BUT a friend of mine in the business reco'd them and said he was impressed, it carried a lot of weight with me so I tried them...

Mini splits are one of them things, I would imagine if it lasted 6 years and then needed a $200 repair you would just replace it...
