walker turner drill press

I hope it's ok to pass this along. I just saw an old Walker Turner WT900 drill press on the DC are CL for a great price. I'd jump on it, but I already have one that a completely restored a few years ago. Maybe someone here could use it.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like it may have the hard to come by table raising apparatus.

Yes it does, I think it also might have the 3rd pulley. I'd check that out if you can squeeze the space. 2 drill presses is minimum for a productive shop.

Yes it does have the table raising mechanism, but its a bench top model sitting on a stand. Kind of an odd combination. It would make a nice piece for someone to restore. I have two vintage drill presses and a mill, so I'm well stocked. Here's my restored WT900.

Great job on the drill press! The only thing that might make it better is if it had a table raiser and the third pulley setup.........

A table riser would be a nice addition, but no need for the third pulley set up. The VFD gives me infinite speed adjustment. Its the melding of old technology with new

Oh, I'm well versed in VFD's, currently have them on 7 machines, and have installed them on a couple more. What you will likely find is if you try to say run a large hole saw in steel, when you get the speed slow enough, you won't have enough torque. That's when you need additional speed reduction via another pulley set or gear reduction. VFD's are great, I love them, but they don't eliminate the need to gear down for extra torque.

I agree, the VFD has its limitations. I up-motored it to a 3/4hp 220v 3ph motor to offset the loss to some extent. It doesn't make up for a reducer pulley set up completely, but it works fine for my needs.
