So I am new on here. Love the site so far. I am currently on vacation and doing some work around the house. I have one of the oil free craftsman compressor that died yesterday. So I have found this one at lowes and would like to see what you think. I use a compressor for diy projects. Would like to use some air tools with new one. Thx for the help.

Ayuh,.... If yer just shootin' nails, 'bout any of 'em will work, just Fine,.....

If yer sandin', or usin' an impact gun, ya need Big air,....

So,..... Whatcha plan on usin' for air tools,..??

Shooting nails.... And maybe air ratchet.. Some impact... The sticker on the top of the unit shows moderate use for impact and air ratchet..

Would just like something small and compact that will not have a large foot print in my garage.

Find the air consumption specs for the tools you'll be using now and in the future. Determine which tools have the highest air consumption and high duty cycles. (ex: sanders, grinders, etc)

Those tools will dictate your min. compressor capacity in CFM.

Tools with high air consumption and low duty cycle can run on a smaller compressors as long as the tank is a reasonable size. (ex: impact tools)

Tools with low air consumption and low duty cycles can get by with just about any size compressor. (ex: finish nailers, filling tires, shop air)

For modest homeowner needs, I think the 33 gallon/2HP portable units are a good choice. (go cast iron, belt drive)
