Kennedy toolbox

I'm beginning to think that free space in a workshop is just a mythical, nonexistent thing in a story created by some sadist to piss people off when they have no free space in their workshop. :D Finally started making a little bit of room in the workshop so that I could at least walk around without tripping over something, and then my neighbour asks me if I want a toolbox. Now, bearing in mind that I'm not generally a fan of metal toolboxes, and the fact that my tidying up instinct was telling me to say no, my bloke side kicked in as I knew this would be a "hand in my man card" moment if I said no. :D So, I ended up with this, and at the same time literally managed to obliterate any space gains I've made in the workshop recently as I'll need to make a spot for it now.

Ignore the chipboard box on top of it in the second photo. That's just plonked on there as I had to shift that to make space for the Kennedy box. The toolbox is bolted to that trolley, which has fixed castors on the rear and swivel castors on the front. Rough dimensions of the box are 26"x16"12". Not seen inside the box as yet as he's digging the key out for me, so no idea what condition the drawers and such are in, and obviously it's had a bit of a rough life and is a bit battered, but just wondered if these are a decent box?

The trolley is quite ironic, as I'd be happy as a pig in poo if I actually had enough space to wheel anything about in the workshop. :D

Fretters: I'm a huge Kennedy box fan. I've never seen one like yours. Can you post detailed pictures of it opened up? Also a better picture of the tag?

Will do Mark. :) Soon as he finds the key for it, I'll get some shots of the internals for you. I'll take a better photo of the front of the box and the tag tomorrow.

p.s: I take it I did the right thing by not saying no then? :D

p.p.s: That handle is made from a Gedore spanner and a couple of standoffs.

I'll grab a photo of the slides tomorrow. Is it possible we have a manufacturer over here of the same name, as I'm guessing this appears different to the ones over there? I'm not a toolbox person generally, so I have no clue about stuff like this. :D

Cool box and the color is a change from the Kennedy boxes have had and used over the years.

Thanks for the pics, and I love the handle...good to see a box that is used to work from.

Fretters: I'm sure that you know this, but for years, Kennedy boxes in the states came in wrinkle red or wrinkle brown. Only within the last few years, they produced boxes with a variety of colors. That's why yours is interesting. The drawers have a similar styling to my Clarke HD cabinets. Thanks for the extra pictures.

Attached are mine from the 80s.

My dad had a Kennedy I used to use alot when i lived there. He brought it home from work and left in under the carport. It rotted and he said he tossed it. Did pretty good to probably get no maintenance. It looks like the one on the left of that photo, the bottom drawer swings up like a garage door. I think he had it for about thirty years. I have Craftsman now, but would probably get a Kennedy in the future if needed.

May just be me, but the font-type looks different on the brown vs the overseas green one.

Fretters: I'm sure that you know this...

I don't/didn't. :D Seriously, when it comes to toolboxes, my knowledge is literally zero. :D My toolboxes have always consisted of old drawer units, ammo boxes etc, (all wood), but never anything metal, until this. Metal boxes in the land of eternal damp are an option which make me wince, generally. :D Nice boxes you have there, btw. :)

Looking at the logo compared to yours, as MJ says, I'm thinking this may be a completely different manufacturer too. I'll be damned if I can find any info on one over here though. Only thing I can find is what appears to be the only company selling them, which appears to be Cromwell. If I find any further info, I'll add it to the thread.
