The issue i see here is, the LED is listed as 36w with a color of 4000K and a lumens output of 3200 but they "claim" it s equivalent to a dual 32w t8 shop light. the problem with that is the dual 32w shop light has a color of 4100k and a lumen output of 2800x2. The LED is way short on lumens, anyone do a real life comparison between the two?
Even the dual 40w t12 shop light has 2600 lumen x2 but at a greater wattage. I can see saving money on electricity if the LED is actually the same or close lumen output but at half, you'd need two LED lights to be comparable to the standard shop lights...
IMG_20150305_183550324 by alxdgr8, on FlickrThe issue in comparing LEDs to fluorescents is partially in their radiation patterns. Fluorescent bulbs are mounted on the ceiling, but they radiate light 360 degrees... which means 180 degrees (or more, since most shop light fixtures have some cut-off) of the light goes in a direction it shouldn't. That leaves it the reflectors job to get the light going the right direction. Most shop lights have a basic white painted reflector which is less than optimal, and I'm sure pretty lossy compared to the mirror-style reflectors.
That doesn't make up all of the difference, but just something to consider. Looking at one in the store, as well as one Lowes carries, it looked like they are pretty close to a typical two-bulb T8 fixture.

This was asked before, but no one ever answered. Has anyone opened one up to mount directly to the ceiling like you do a regular florescent fixture?
Thanks

Price was 39.99 at my store. Looked again today the "new lower price" is 49.99. Seriously, it said new lower price.

I'm not going to say it's impossible, but dam that's a lot of work to surface mount it
OK, thanks for taking the trouble to open one up. Great pics to show what I needed to know.
Obviously no way to get to the inside of the top of the housing. Looks like the path to surface mount is to mount a flat ******** top (from the outside) at each end, sticking out just far enough for a screw to go up into the ceiling.
Thanks again.

You kinda give me an idea on flush mount. On the very top they have a slot for you to put the hook in to hang on ceiling. This slot is big enought for a screw head to go in. If you have a dremel you can make a smaller slot to slide over the screw head. Make a mark on your ceiling and add screws to ceiling but do not tight the screw all the way in. Take the light and line it up with screws and slide it into the slot you just made to hold the lights in. I know many of you are very creative so I think you know what I mean (kinda hard to explain with words).

That's exactly what I was thinking. Screw into the ceiling slip the light on the screws slide sideways and it's up just like some of the clock mounts and other things you might find around your house.
Printed all the receipts posted here.. heading to HD after work to try and negotiate a price match. Will post back with results
For those of us on backorder from the original deal, has anyone received a shipping notification? I thought they were shipping on the 15th?
So I just sent an e-mail to the manufacturer, ETI solid state lighting, to see if they were indeed on back-order and out of stock. If they say no, I will re-contact Home Depot with this information. I'm getting sick of this. I don't even care about the lights anymore, but I'm tired of getting the run-around.
I don't buy the "we can't get them in stock" story for a minute. There is no reason why the brick-and-morter stores can get them restocked, but online can't...unless online has no interest in reordering. They have no interest in filling these orders IMO.
Just to throw fuel on the fire. I went into one of my local HD's and they agreed to price match my online order. They showed 4 in stock. I got to the shelf, found 8 lights and bought 6. I went into the same store yesterday, and they have about 8 on the shelf again.
Now I am thinking of going back to the store and getting a couple more.
Thanks Guys I will be interested to see pictured from guys who hard wired theirs.
I have 1 florescent in the center of garage but I would like to these about 6ft apart.
I have two questions.
First when you go into the store to get these and ask for price match do you just show the them picture of the recipt for them this thread? Or do you down load it down to your phone?
Second is when you link these light together will the first light turn on and off the rest?
