I still remember back in the 90's I needed an adjustable wrench on a job site so I ran into HD and grabbed one labeled Ohio Forge. Imagine my surprise when I noticed it was made in China. Used it to get the job done and took it right back. Deceptive advertising!!

Hey SantaAna, as mentioned Oregon used to be a pretty big player in the chain saw world. I think HF may be a little late to the party.

Yeah, 'cause there's no logging association with Oregon...

Actually, Oregon is a company that supplies consumable parts for chainsaws and equipment with small motors. Blades, Chains, lawnmower parts, etc. It also is a state with a large city named Portland.

I didn't really think about logging and associate it with HF. I just thought they were playing off of the company name.

I bet! It's probably a good place for me to avoid, though... lead me not to temptation, for I can find it myself... LOL

Hah! Maybe closer to the mark than I thought. My boss's son has a bike shop there and when he told me how many bike shops there are in Portland it blew me away.
And then theres that show Portlandia. I couldnt get into it.
I could see.some loggers laughing their a&$ off at the changes.

I no longer laugh at HF when I see the line in the store.

You're all aware that the old Chicago Electric chainsaw used an Oregon bar and chain, right?

you're right! i forgot about that. my last saw chain was made by "Oregon". seems like the original Oregon company might have problems with HF's Oregon.

iirc, my saw chain was still made in china though.

Yeah, 'cause there's no logging association with Oregon...

The Oregon Saw Chain Manufacturing Corp. has been in business continuously since 1947. I seem to recall that their actual innovation was the shape and arrangement of the teeth on the chain.

Became the industry leader.

I was just about to mention this.
I think my pole saw I bought from HF has an Oregon bar and chain.
The chains I end up buying most often are Oregon, for my Homelite saw...

They don't. HF is Central Pneumatic and they use Chicago Electric for their power tools.

But Chicago Pneumatic is CP is Chicago Pneumatic.

I went to a new HF store that opened 2 days ago near me, I'm glad it's there (shrug).

Yes. I made that leap in my head I guess. I have an old school 1/2 CP gun that is a classic.
I am with you on the shrug.
However...
I have a 10 ton HF pnuematic foot pump and a Wen 1/2 drill I bought many moons ago at HF in Camarillo.
Both are still up and running. The Wen has plastic bearings.
Who woulda thunk it?
Last trip to the Salinas HF.....about 15 people in line.

That being said: I hope Portland chainsaw rips HF a new one in court.

Who says that Oregon isn't re-branding things for HF as a high-volume outlet?

I bought a steam cleaner, it's a McCulloch. Came from HF. By glancing at the manuals, it appears to be a model made to be distributed by HF.

HF needs to buy out Sears/KMart and use and improve the Craftsman line.

I'd rather go to my local HF than my local Sears.
The place may smell funny and half the stuff may be absolute garbage but with four lines open, they have 10 people in each line either buying something or exchanging something.

The only things I had found to be good at Sears were appliances, hand tools, and Kenmore canister vacuum cleaners. The ones that take the 5055/50557/50558/C/Q bags. Hold just enough, mine has the three filters, power head is really good.
I beat the living )*(&)(*& out of mine, for a couple hundred and change, I've only bought three in the last 20 years. I vacuum cars, yard, driveway, garage, basement, C&D, rugs, floors, walls, ceiling, ceiling fans...
My Kenmore fridge, until the near electrical fire at the main breaker a couple of weeks ago, has been wonderful for over 10 years. It trips the GFI now. Have to get that up in the air and check on it.

My local Sears is a ghost town. They no longer can replace a couple of screwdrivers I like because they no longer carry them or anything like them. I walked into Lowes the other day and saw it's twin on the rack, for sale. They no longer replace tape measures. They gave me store credit towards another non-lifetime brand.

HF seems to be doing something right.
Sears seems to be doing something wrong.
Is it wrong to be the better competitor and then become better quality while you do it?

I never paid any attention to the brand names in HF.
I have idea why they like to use Portland.
Portland ? Well, because its a US city, it must be the best saw ever ! /s/

The smaller communities are really being left out here. I'd like to see some tools or supplies branded Toad **** or Possum Junction.

Just a cheap ploy to pass off their garbage. Most on here would be lost without Harbor Freight.

+1 agreed.

I'm treating HF like Walmart, avoiding it and the ghetto rats that shop and work there. I havent been to Walmart in more than two years now, maybe twice in the two years previous for emergencies. HF has been a quarterly shopping trip for me the past few years, normally I walk in and either cant find anything worth the effort or on occasion buy something of no consequence like chip brushes or gloves. I just wish I could stop others from buying me presents there, I feel bad giving gifts away but they bring the entire garage atmosphere down...

Someone needs to convince HF that ***********, PA is synonymous with high quality tools.

Would love to see what they come up from that...

Nice. :lol_hitti

How about Manassas, VA or Coxsackie, NY ?

" UH, sorry Sir, but the coupon can only be used on our Manassas jack hammer and can't be combined with the purchase of our Coxsackie cutoff discs."
