Sent you a PM with some info.

Your biggest problem will be getting builders to show up and if you do get one under contract, the next problem will be getting them to keep focused on your job. Maybe things are different in today's economy.

If you can swing it, I would recommend you use cash incentives, based upon very specific milestones, as your payment structure (with a reasonable bonus for an early pass of final inspection and completion of a "work off" list).

Good Luck, R1chy

Having gone through adding a pool and garage recently in NoVa, I will echo the same things R1chy said. Finding someone to show up for estimates can be difficult, getting them to focus on your job will be next to impossible.

I'd recommend an incentive/penalty clause. An early pass = bonus, late pass = penalty, the later the pass, the larger the penalty. You'll get a more realistic completion date up front and a much better chance that they'll meet the timeframe you've agreed to. With a standard early completion bonus clause, once they've missed the bonus date, there's no incentive to get them back on your job.

NoVA Garage Journal GTG at the Garagenous Zone

Hi all,

I offered to host the next NoVA Garage GTG at my house, and I guess now is as good a time as any.

I'm planning on Saturday, January 3, 2009 from 1PM to 4PM. My garage will be open, and my project car will be on display as well.

PM me for directions- the location is in Clifton, VA, near Centerville and Manassas.

The NoVA GTG was great!! Many thanks to "BoostAddiction" and his wife for hosting a wonderful afternoon. Your garage/shop is absolutely beautiful, and outfitted to very high professional standard (i.e., high drool factor).

Your project car is definitley a unique piece, and truely is a lesson in great automotive engineering. I forgot my camera; hence I have no pics to post. I'm hoping some of you other guys can show some of the wonderful work that is being accomplished in this shop.

Thanks again!!!!

We had a great turnout at the VA Garage Gang Open Garage at the Garagenous Zone today- thanks to all the attendees. It was great to see most of the regulars, and some new folks as well.

Here are a few pics (please ignore the dates...).

Thanks again,

-Will

Some of the gang looking at the pedals from the car (as they are currently "installed" on the welding table)...

Hi All,

The car is a Superlite Coupe. Here is a picture of one of the early cars, all murdered out.

More details at www.superlitecars.com .

Like the black car, mine has an LS7 crate motor, and a Ricardo transaxle from the Ford GT. Lots of headroom in terms of power potential, and plenty of power right now for a sub-2400 pound car.

It was fun attending and meeting some new people, also the motivation of seeing another great working shop was nice.

Great day, great event, great garage, great project car.

Will,

Thanks for having all of us over. The Garagenous Zone and Superlite Coupe are what wet dreams are made of. Is there a voice in the back of your head whispering "Build it and they will come"? Your attention to detail is amazing and almost scary. Thanks again for sharing and the opportunity to meet so many new people.

Will - The good news is that with Virginia Tech's win the drive down to the Orange Bowl was worth it, the bad news is I missed your event. Based upon the pictures it looks like you had a good turn out and by all the rave reviews, your Geee-rage is looking sharp.

You'll either have to host another event or let me attend a private viewing in the spring.

It's free standing, it's very stable even though not bolted to the foundation. If you look in the upper right hand corner of the picture, you can see a few of the casters on the shelf, when attached, they make it easy to move the lift around.

It's a Direct Lift Pro Park 9 Plus with 2 rolling Pro Jack 4500 jacks. As 4 posts go, it's a very nice unit. I picked it up from Greg Smith Equipment Sales up in DE and saved shipping.

Awesome, that's the one I'm looking at now that they have their ELI certification.
I'll be in touch to have a look at it before I buy!

Hello all!

Count me in for NoVA. I used to work with ViceGrip at a dealership and I'm all over the NoVA area these days. Not much that I can offer in terms of a garage meet, just an attached 2-car garage in Ashburn, VA.

Keep me posted for future events!! I can be reached at m5_lite at hotmail dot com

I was just searching for this thread to ask when the next event was? It's been a while...

I just looked to see if there was a good weekend I could host, but things are looking pretty busy for the next two months.

There's events?

Welcome.

We have had a few meet and greets events. Mostly to see some of the VA garages in person and fellowship with the guys. All that is needed is a willingness to share what you have and the inclination to set a date. For the most part it will be hit or miss, obviously for holiday weekends most already have alternate plans.

I wanted to get the word out here as welll, Falls Church High School is having a car show this upcoming Saturday, May 9th. It is being held at the school near the auto tech class/shop. It goes from 9:00am until 2:00pm and there will a competition for various classes.

Mike Blondin is running the show and he would certainly appreciate a big turnout.

Please contact me if you are thinking about coming and participating or even just showing up to see - should be pretty good as I think some cars from the Chick-Fil-A in Sterling Friday night car gathering will be there as well.

I thought this was the VIRGINIA garage gang? If it's exclusive to Northern Virginia then you should call it the NOVA garage gang....
