Welcome Northern Virginia Garage Journal members.

I'm starting this thread to give Northern Virginia Garage owners a place to chat and exchange info.

To start it off, I have a 2 car in my home and a 85 x 56 foot Barn (The Toy Box) in Shenandoah Valley. I"ll post pictures of both when I get a chance to take some.

Yeh, we did kind of hijack that one didn't we...

North Columbia pike checking in on the new thread. My name is Rob- I've been a car & garage junkie for 43 years. Currently in withdrawal and living in an apartment in the city. My toys are stashed in my sisters barn 70 miles away.... 67 Lotus Elan & 70 Mach 1 428cj.
The girlfriend and I are planning on buying as soon as we can and she has placed "big garage" at the top of the search criteria!

Greetings all you NOVA guys.

I didn't realize we had so many folks from NoVa on this board, we live in Ashburn. I've been in the area since 1989 and it's finally starting to feel like home here. My new detached garage is nearing completion (as near to complete as a garage can get anyhow). I still need to put in some baseboards as well as figure out if I am going to do anything with the floor. Next on the list is a good compressor and a lift. I keep hoping to find a good deal on a good used 2 stage compressor locally, but it hasn't come yet. I recently posted photos in this thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20122

Checking in from Westover Arlington.
Lots so small the max they'll let you build is a 550sq/ft....so I did.

Hopefully I'll be making a LOT more headway on finishing it and a yard-tool shed this late-summer/fall.

I'm in Fairfax city -- I work out of a 24x28 garage and have a 12x16 machine shop next door. I've tried to get a permit for a bigger shop, but I can't put another permanent building on my lot. Oh well!! That's life in the city.

Right now I'm disassembling a '69 XKE. I started the project in February, but due to work, will have to wait until mid August to get back to it full time. I hope to have it at the blaster's by early September.

Looks like you have a well used and nicely kept shop.

Hey guys. New to Falls Church, just recently moved from Florida. I'll be finishing putting up the interior walls this weekend in the garage this weekend. Hopefully the whole garage will be done within a month or so. I'll do a before after thread when the time comes.

Hey guys Im in vienna, we have beeen here since 89 we have a 24x24 garage with office above it. we run a hardscapes company from there , and my dads office is up there too.we are trying to find a new place to build a 60X60 pole barn but can't find an acceptable area for it with our usage but here is what we have now. Its used for everything from Automotive(built a 93mustang in there), to wood working to now its used to store all the left over pavers from jobs and tools from the company.

It's a mess right now we have been working on a huge driveway and have no time to keep it clean. heres the pics

Warrenton here. I've posted a few pics in the past, but I'm too lazy right now to post pics in this thread. Have a 3-car with a loft and 2-post lift (lift is open for 'light' use to anyone in the area) Not doing much with it now, but hope to build a Factory Five one day.

Great to see local guys on the board.

Hey this is great! I am just moving to Burke, VA. Who said the housing market is dead? I lost three houses competitively before I bought this one (also competitively.) The third one had a four car (two wide, double depth) garage

But the one I got (I take possession tomorrow!) has a small 20x20 two car. But around here that isn't too bad as far as I can tell.

So I have lots to do (floors, storage, move my 67 Chevelle in..) but fixing the deck and building a shed (to get the yard tools out of the garage) will take priority. But I'll be around. Looking forward to talking to you all.

I'm always up for that, besides I need to chat with you sometime about your mini-split system and doing the same on my garage.

Thanks guys. It was one step and found treasure or sweet deal at a time. I am done working on the shop and going hammer and tong at the race car now. This weekend is out for me but I bet we can make some Sat afternoon work for the Nova gang. I'll supply the beer.

Rob from Broadlands(Ashburn) here. I moved here from MI a little over a year ago. I have a small 2-car about 21'x19' that I'm working on organizing. No pics yet.

It's cool to see you local guys here. And I'd definitely be up for getting together sometime.

Glad to see everyone showing up on the thread and think the "wrench in" is a great idea.

I would nominate ViceG's Garage for the 1st NOVA Gang social, but would hate to drool all over his floor. I'll be building my son a Loft Bed this weekend, so will welcome a break if anyone wants to volunteer their place - I'll bring a 6.

No problem. Like I said I'll chill some beer, drooling is optional but be careful the floor is the almost useless water based Rusty-olum stuff. Might make a hole in it ;)

I have a block party on Sat and am hosting a Tech inspection session at my work for a track event on Sunday but the next weekend is open.

Funny how many of us are in this area. Good call R1chy

I recognize that garage from a PCA garage tour- one of the cooler things the club has done locally.

Mine wasn't finished, so I didn't think to put it on the tour, but I enjoyed seeing all of them.

I'd be in for a NoVA garage meet-up, and also would be happy to host one. Perhaps we could rotate among local garages occasionally to get a detailed look at what people have done. I almost always learn something from every garage I see.

It's nice to see so many local folks and I'm definitely up for a garage happy hour as well, next weekend sounds good to me. I could host one as well in the future, though you guys might be pretty bored in my garage.

My detached garage has been a long time coming so I'm short on garage goodies at this point. It's the first time I've had space to get my own equipment so I'm still trying to find the right deal on a 2 stage compressor, a lift, a bench vise, and a welder, not to mention looking for the right project to occupy the empty bay in my garage.

Burke, VA here with a typical single family attached 2 car garage. Been in NoVA since 1978 and in Burke since 2004. Garage is currently 22x24ish but my imagination is dreaming up adding on to make it a 5 car with the "5th" spot being the workshop area - its all in the 5 year plan.

I'm up for a NoVA garage social - nice to get ideas from locals and help each other out. It would be especially helpful to hear the war stories regarding building permits and HOA rules/regs as I'm still debating calling my garage expansion a "sun room" to get it by our HOA. I'd ask my neighbors but most of my them only park christmas decorations and other junk in their garage!

Ashburn, VA here and would love to be included in a garage social. I have an attached two car garage. The only addition I've made was using EpoAmor coating on the floor but I am looking to make some additions in the fall. Once I finish up my 66 Mustang Fastback I can focus on my garage additions.

Hey Vicegrip,
What class are you planning on running the Porsche in?

Rob
GT Where depends on final weight but it will be up in the "I am going to be killed by the tractor trailer rig and pro mechanic gang" classes of GT 1 or 2 most likely. Was going to be a solid thought out GT4 but the fine folks at National changed the Class rules mid build and it instantly pushed up to GT2 from lightness alone. Threw my tools down for awhile then got a 1995 3.6L for it. Still won't win or even land above the crease but will be a lot more fun at least.

BTW Will/Boost addiction Nice clean open shop! Just noticed you are local.

Interesting, ballast where you want won't get you back to the GT4 weight? My experience is all GT1....
What is your goal? "Win the Runoffs" or go play at fun tracks in regionals or nationals?

Ballast!? After killing myself getting it light as loosely compressed packing foam?! You can only ballast down one class anyway. Just what to have fun don't have the time, skill or money to consistently win.

How does noon or so this Saturday sound? Throw some burgers on the grill and knock back a beer or two while discussing wether a Snap-On wrench makes a bigger chip in a 2 part 100% solids floor than a C man wrench does. Kid friendly house if you want to bring a crumb grubber or 1/2 high yard ape along.

Is this a general invitation to the VA garage gang? I have alot going on, but would try to swing by because I want to get involved and eventually host. But Saturday my new garage floor will be going down! (Not by me.)

Yes it is. I will be working in the shop most of the day and eating around noon. See who is around and order some pizza or throw some burgers on the grill to go with a beer or two. There seems to be a surprising number of us on this site considering it is urban/suburban life as far as the eye can see.

Wish I could make it, but I'm off to Texas to deal with a family emergency. Beer and bench racing sounds like more fun!

Vice,
Thanks for the general invite and of course for hosting! I've got a busy weekend coming up but I'd like to stop by. Maybe I missed something but where are you in NoVA?

One more NoVA guy. I am out near Warrenton/Marshall. Just finishing up a 30x36' detached garage. Always looking for floor/lift/cabinet ideas. Just had eye surgery two weeks ago, so driving is limited. May try to make it if you are still on. Kirby

Visegrip,
This is an excellent idea and I cannot beleive how many guys we have here in NOVA. I hope I can make it but I may have to be out of town this weekend. I'm in Alexandria with a 3 car (26 X 42) with radiant heat and ductless A/C. If I can make it I'll try to bring pictures. I still need cabinets, epoxy, and more organization. Aren't they all a work in progress?
Look forward to meeting everyone.

Have you set a time yet? Finishing up the Son's dorm room loft this weekend, so I'll pop over between finish coats. What can I bring?

I'll PM for address info.

Pizza, cold drinks and shop talk on a summer Saturday. whats not to like?

Please don't be shocked if you see a foo-reen car in my shop rather an a US hot rod. I am weard like that. :)
