Anyone got a good technique for pulling the the cover plate out, its ******** tight! I've had the square drive in the vise with soft jaws but im trying to avoid applying too much brute force...

On such occasions I turn the screws out just a little bit and hit them with a brass hammer while the edge of the ratchet body rests on top of the vice jaws.
Maybe combine with having the square in the jaws and use a pry bar to push up on the edge of the ratchet head while tapping the head on the sides.

Just hold it by the handle and smack the drive plug against your work bench (according to the rebuild kit instructions ).

I've done this before with other ratchet brands. I put a large rag over the head before smacking it on the bench to prevent any springs and other small parts from launching if the whole thing flies apart.

The F936 cover plate should come off very easy; it has no o-ring around it like the F830 does. I just use a telescopic magnet on my F936. For the F830, I pull on the square drive with locking pliers; the cover plate comes off with the drive that way.

Good idea. I can see that happening if the lever is loose, especially with larger size rats that have a heavy pawl.

No offense but if you guys need help getting the cover plate off of a f936, you probably shouldn't be using one in the first place.

My 4 year old could rebuild it.

No offense but what if you don't have one. Besides like already stated if you can't rebuild one you shouldn't be using one

a) Any excuse to go see the Snap on Guy and drool at all the tools.
b) Because I may be able to get him to warranty the parts inside and want his 2 cents first.
c) Have actually rebuilt my own Matco and Craftsman ratchets.
